  1. Implementation of Creative Teaching and Enhancement of Teaching Quality

Tatung University (TTU) was developed based on the idea of students-based learning, advancing our courses, projects of the internship, learning experiences, and also learning environments to enhance studying  effects and raisestudents’ competitiveness from learning to career development.

 

Through the budget rewards of Higher Education Sprout Project of Ministry of Education, we can cultivate students with the abilities and characteristics of "globalization", "cross-fields", "hands-on", "innovation and entrepreneurship" and "recognition in the local", furthermore, becoming a "social caring cross-domain innovation practitioner" who can solve the future problems of society. The strategy is actively creating innovative talent training models, enhancing students' basic and cross-disciplinary capabilities, using innovative teaching models to strengthen students' independent thinking ability, expanding international perspectives through solid foreign language courses, and combining international colleges and international exchange activities to enhance students' international mobility.   

 

Moreover, various strategic plans of improving teaching quality are also applied. Such as promoting goal-oriented and outcome-based teaching knowledge workshops, and various types of professional studying communities. With the professional studying motivation of the groups, professors are able to form an efficient teaching model through professional dialogue in the community, and achieving the goal of teachers' mutual learning by sharing good examples and innovating teaching. In order to fit the goal of the reward program, various teaching assistant study activities were conducted to enhance their ability of assisting other students to study better. More importantly, this is the channel to share their teaching experience to improve teaching quality.

Besides the professional and cross-disciplinary competence that provided by formal curriculum, various activities of informal curriculum, such as self-exploration, understanding of personal skills, and interactive communication skills with others were also conducted to develop students’ long-term and overall competitiveness

In addition, in order to cultivate students with the diverse abilities needed in the future workplace and build mid- to long-term competitiveness; the school also cultivates an attitude of pursuing self-realization, lifelong learning through mutual incentives among peers, and establishing the values ​​of service altruism for finding self-positioning in workplace. The development and planning of core competence will be fed back to the continuous revision of ability indicators at all levels through learning effectiveness reviews and various feedback mechanisms, so as to achieve the goal of all students being able to learn and grow in an appropriate way.

In summary, in the face of “Implementation of creative teaching and enhancement of teaching quality”, in order to accelerate the virtuous circle and close relevance among learning, innovation of educational system, creative teaching, and elite teaching in class, seven sub-item of the project were settled as: the project of initiating the training program for innovative interdisciplinary talents, the project of strengthen the student’s basic ability, the project of constructing interdisciplinary professional learning environment, the project of advancing teachers’ professional development, the project of advancing students’ learning effects, the project of the research of learning effects and teachers’ elite teaching in class, the project of increasing learning resources─the creation of the space of independent study and e-learning.

  1. Development of School Characteristics

    Tatung University has been established since 1956 based on the ideas of

    “Cooperative education, Research-oriented development, Integrity, Honesty, Frugality, and Industry” to educate and train the backbone of the nation, societal tutors, business managers, and industrial leaders. Moreover, TTU is one of the universities that has  a long history of cooperative education in Taiwan .

    Despite the negative impact of declining birthrate in recent years, TTU develops its characteristics and combines industrial resources actively to bridge the gap between learning and employment.

    The advantage of TTU includes: (1) emphasis on the ability of hands-on; (2) cross-disciplinary cooperation; (3) rich industry-academic experience; (4) internationalization; (5) external resources; (6) outstanding performance in industry-academic; (7) convenient location at the center of business, politics, culture, etc.  Moreover, the input of alumni and industries will help the school cultivate well-rounded talent, making the biggest competitive advantage. Overall, TTU aims to become an exquisite, high-quality model university to cultivate cross-field talent.

  2. Enhancement of The Publicity of Higher Education

    Higher education is not only a public tool, but also the cornerstone advancing nation. Persisting in Mr. ShanChih Lin’s (Shang-Zhi Lin, founder of TTU) original intention of donating funds to establish the school and cultivating industrial talent, TTU continues to enhance the “public-popularized education” in the aspect of students, teachers and school operation.

  3. Fulfillment of Social responsibility

TTU promotes the project of “University Social Responsibility” to place importance on talent cultivation and contribution to the local or society. Additionally, we practice the values of “human-oriented”, “taking neighbors as home”,  and “treating the world as friends”. The four sub-projects are specifically based on the concept of humanistic care and local connection, focused on the elderly in the community around the school and migrant workers gathering on Zhongshan North Road, even expanded to the Southeast Asian field. The project is innovative to demonstrate TTU’s characteristics through the rich exchange experience between the school and industries, innovative program of integration of diverse external resources, the teaching experience in hands-on emphasized by teachers and students, mature cross-field teams, and international exchange, etc.

With the assistance and planning of the promotion team, TTU will be advanced to become a promoter of regional development and local creation. TTU carries out system and commitment to university social responsibility based on local needs and the school’s advantages and characteristics. In addition, foreign migrant workers, organic agriculture, rural agriculture, and the elderly are the targets of service and attention. The in-depth connection and curriculum planning bring benefits to the participating students, the targets of service, and the local community.
