DYU received grants from Ministry of Education, ranking top among all private colleges in Changhua, Yunlin, Nantou, Chiayi Counties.

Da-Yeh University adheres to the four academic directions of “Apprenticeship; Link globally; Industry-academia collaboration; Career achievement” and enhances students’ employment competitiveness and interdisciplinary professionalism by German-style apprenticeship system and innovative teaching. DYU received grants from Ministry of Education on 10 projects in 2018, and in 2019, DYU received grants on 16 projects, ranking top among all private colleges in Changhua, Yunlin, Nantou, Chiayi Counties.
Su-Wei Chang, head of Department of Medicinal Botanicals and Health Applications, who has received Education Ministry’s subsidy in Teaching Practice Research Program, says that she adopts the “question-oriented” scientific research method, where she raises questions that are related to topics, one topic a week, before working with diverse activities like teaching models, graphs, teaching videos, experience with scientific instruments, monographic lectures, appointments with industrial experts, and service learning, to motivate the students to learn. Under the curricular training, the students can testify the myths about care in empirical way, transforming the know-hows they learned into practical skills, while it also helps them develop the abilities of independent thinking, logical reasoning and problem solving to become specialized talents that meet industrial needs.
 

Overseas Volunteers’ Team –

DYU provides service in Sichuan, China for the fourth year

An overseas volunteer team of Da-Yeh University headed for Dazu Village by Lake Lugu, the third largest lake in Sichuan, China on 16th – 22nd, Aug. to provide international volunteer service, realizing UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs). They went as far as to the forest farm of the local elementary school to assist in painting creation and teaching, helping preserve the local precious Dongba Culture.
The DYU overseas volunteer team has been helping preserve the local Dongba Culture since 2015. The recent volunteer service was assisting, deep in the forest farm at a local elementary school, in painting creation to embellish the farm facilities and spaces for attracting tourists to make in-depth exploration in the villages. Additionally, to make equal and quality education and learning really happen, the service team designed curricular like environmental protection and science to strengthen remote area children’s learning and knowledge exploration in various fields.
 

  Po-Yuan Li fromDept. of Plastic Art at DYU Chooses to Be Exchange Student

  at Carrara, Italy Instead of Taiwan’s National University

Graduated just in June 2019 from the Department of Plastic Art at Da-Yeh University, Po-Yuan Li was admitted to a master's degree program at a well-known national university of arts in Taiwan. However, instead of the national university, he chose to stay at DYU which offers multiple opportunities for international exchange, to advance toward a master degree, in hope of making his dream of studying abroad come true. Under the guidance of Hsiu-Ling Liao, head of department, Li succeeded in becoming an exchange student at the Accademia di belle arti di Carrara, Italy, where he will fly to in late September and study for a year.
Li says that the Italian teacher who was invited by the department to lecture in the international exchange seminar had unique perspectives about design, and widened cultural his view as well as inspired him to study abroad. In order to make his dream of studying in Italy come true, he chose to stay at DYU. The Accademia di bellearti di Carrara was established in 1769 and is famous in the realm of stone sculpture. He looks forward to the learning life in Italy.
 
Orsted Joins DYU in Inaugurating Wind Energy Research & Education Center
The Danish Orsted Co. is working hand in hand with Da-Yeh University to foster talents specialized in offshore wind energy who are local in Changhua region, deep rooting the technology of wind energy here! On the morning of Sept. 16, 2019, the Da-Yeh University Wind Energy Research & Education Center was officially inaugurated, where Orsted not only provides nacelle for teaching purpose but also holds workshop for Danish engineers to lead students in apprentice operation. President of the University, Cho-Chung Liang, says that in Denmark, where more than forty percent of the wind power, the wind power technology is considerably matured. The Orsted from Denmark, being the leading developer in offshore wind power business, is about to implement a wind farm offshore Changhua coast and needs Taiwan’s local talents urgently. While DYU has committed itself to R&D of green energy, the schooling philosophy of German apprentice training system is consistent with Orsted’s “Project of apprenticeship in offshore wind energy”; as such, Orsted appreciates DYU and they entered an agreement on industrial-academic collaboration to jointly foster talents in offshore wind power.
President Liang stated that the “DYU-Orsted Project of apprenticeship in offshore wind power” sets this year’s freshmen at the University’s Engineering college as subjects of recruit for training operating and maintaining engineers on the wind turbines. Both parties will provide jointly specialized curricula on offshore wind energy industry, which covers the fields of mechanical, electric, environmental and engineering management, and practical training can be given at the DYU Wind Energy Research & Education Center. A student who has completed the wind energy series of courses will be awarded a certificate of completion of offshore wind energy program. Orsted will also offer 12 students tuition fee subsidy and living allowance for their junior and senior years in college, as well as a paid internship at any wind farm of Orsted or its affiliates, where they can work with prominent experts and, if performing excellently during the internship, will be given the opportunity to stay on.
Andreas Munk-Janson, head supervisor of Orsted’s Asia Pacific operation division, stated that the inauguration of the DYU Wind Energy Research & Education Center is an important milestone of the collaboration between both parties. It is expected, through the collaboration project, to recruit the most prominent talents to enhance the development of green energy industry and renewable energy.
 

DYU Food Science and Biotechnology Department Makes Their Own Tealeaves

– Jumble Sale for Assisting Learning


The Food Science and Biotechnology Department of Da-Yeh University sets up the “Tea technology and product R&D base”. After the department head, Shih-Chieh Li led the students to learn tea making in Meishan, they held an on-campus jumble sale of the Oolong tea they make. The proceeds were all contributed to the “Da-Yeh University School Affairs SustainabilitySound Program of Assistance to the Underprivileged”, which helps underprivileged students feel assured to study.
The “Tea base” is active in cooperating with the industry, holding seminars and promoting the idea of natural farming and food safety. Presently it sets foot at the tea plant in Meishan Township, Chiayi County to give teaching. The students made this batch of Oolong tealeaves by their hands and put on on-campus jumble sale, which has achieved over NT$40,000 for now and counting. The proceeds of the sale will all be donated.
 

Fulfillment of Social Responsibility -

DYU Communication Arts Program Holds Premiere of Documentary of Fang Yuan at Fang Yuan Elementary School

Da-Yeh University’s Project of “Passing on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of ‘Cows plowing oyster farm’: Innovating Values of Recreational Agriculture and Fishery” was awarded subsidy by Ministry of Education on program of fulfilling social responsibility. Head of Communication Arts Program, Ching-Hui Li, lead the students in shooting a series of video, “Legend of Fang Yuan,” in Fang Yuan, and the documentary was premiered at Fang Yuan Elementary School. It was attended by hundreds of guests including teachers and students of both Fang Yuan Elementary School and DYU, villagers of Fang Yuan, parents, literal & historical workers, artists and scholars, who unveiled the film show of Legend of Fang Yuan.
The students, in groups, conducted field survey in Fang Yuan. By walking and visiting, they discovered the local features, while employing the photographic specialty they acquired at the university to record with camera the various looks of Fang Yuan to show its beauty to the public. Also, the College of Design and Arts and the Traditional Arts Program, in collaboration with Fang Yuan Elementary School, held workshops to lead the students at Fang Yuan Elementary School to care about their own homeland through artistic creations, helping rooting the local cultural value. The school kids also participated in the activity with enthusiasm, quickly answering and sharing their thoughts on the videos and expectations for their hometown. Director Wei-Zhong Feng, who is also a pioneer in aerial photography, took an aerial group photograph, one thing he rarely does, of all participants in the cow-shaped green land, which signifies an expectation for college students and school kids to learn together and grow together. 
 

Pride of Taiwan - DYU Dept. of Hospitality Management Wins Gold

in International Culinary Competition of Southern Europe

Taiwanese cuisine shines internationally! Associate Professor Chien-Chih Peng at the Department of Hospitality Management, Da-Yeh University, and four students, Meng-Tse Lin, Chang-Ching Lin, Hsu-Fan Wen and Hsin-I Chen, he led, were the only team from Taiwan in the “11th International Culinary Competition of Southern Europe” in Thessaloniki, Greece, and there they did remarkably, landing 4 golds, 5 silvers and 1 bronze.
eputy Dean of the College of Tourism and Hospitality of DYU says that International Culinary Competition of Southern Europe, which is held every other year in Greece, there are 6 judges from Greece and 17 from around the world. That marks a high-standard world-class event.
 

DYUFood Science and Biotechnology Wins 4 Awards

at Int’l Pottery & Tea Cultural Skills Contest

A team of teachers and students from the Department of Food Science and Biotechnology, Da Yeh University participated the “2018 Int’l Pottery & Tea Cultural Crafts Contest” sponsored by the Chinese Arts and Culture Industry Association, and won the 3rd place in Golden Tea Award with “Mother's Tea” and an Outstanding Award with “Wangfu Tea”, along with a Best Guidance Award for Assistant Professor Wen-Kuang Hsu and a Spiritual Championship for the Team, totally 4 awards.
Hsu stated that there were nearly 400 entries competing for the Golden Tea Award at “2018 Int’l Pottery & Tea Cultural Crafts Contest”, each team having briefed their concept of tea making, cultural propaganda and tea seat design. Two teams from Department of Food Science & Biotechnology both made the cut to the finals, where a panel of judges actually sampled and evaluated the teas. It was a feat that “Mother's Tea” won the third place, and “Wangfu Tea” an Outstanding Award.
 
2019 Taiwan Innotech Expo – DYU Wins 3 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze Awards
Da-Yeh University advances in the spirit of German apprenticeship system and its teachers and students shine! The “Taiwan Innotech Expo”, which previously was the Taipei International Fair of Invention & Technical Trade, is an important platform for technical exchanges between Taiwan with the globe. Among 20 nations who participated in the 2019 Taiwan Innotech Expo with over 650 works in contest, DYU sent 6 selected patents to participate and the R&D team of both teachers and students won 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze awards.

Integrating local resources – DYU promotes a regional revitalization project

This year (2019) is the beginning year of Taiwan regional revitalization. Da-Yeh University integrates local resources, combines the energy of “industrial, government, academic and research”, and cooperated with all sorts like digitizing transformation for industry to further regional revitalization. Among the 26 townships of Changhua County, 19 are now in the list of prioritized areas for making regional revitalization happen, in which DYU not only fosters over 50 thousand talents but also works in depth on local industrial-academic collaboration by playing a role of urging the corporations. Over years, DYU has assisted the local corporations in gaining over 500 government projects. Ing-Lung Shih, Vice President of DYU said that regional revitalization project is a key policy of the National Development Council for resolving personal out-flow and unbalanced industries in remote areas, and the University is actively working with the governments and local corporations to be in line with the regional revitalization project.
The University held a commencing meeting for the regional revitalization project in March 2019. In July, the “DYU Regional Revitalization Forum” was held, inviting Japanese experts and those from the industry, governments and academia to exchange on site. Counsel in sale promotion to the local products exhibition was handled in August, and the University executed an agreement with the “Changhua County Honorary Counselors Association for SMEs” as well as held seminars in September. DYU was active recently in visiting the town halls in Changhua County to set sprout locally, reform local regeneration and to jointly propose the regional revitalization project to the National Development Council. The purpose is to create more job opportunities, deter population outflow and attract talents and the youth who intend to return to their hometowns, to further create local economy and bridge the urban-rural gap.
 

Make the Better of Social Responsibility –

DYU and Fonglun Elementary School Hold the Food Safety Science Camp

The Food Science and Biotechnology Department of Da-Yeh University was awarded by the Ministry of Education the subsidy on project of fulfilling university social responsibility for its “Food Safety Management & Natural Farming - Project of Incubation of Young Talents in DYU Food Safety”. It is not just about fostering specialists in food safety but also focusing more on the education of food safety. The Department and Fonglun Elementary School, Bitou Township, Changhua County jointly held the good safety science camp.
Food safety issues are closely associated with people’s living. DYU began to promote natural farming and the idea of food safety in last year to cultivate talents in the related industries. Apart from assisting the industries in ensuring food safety, as food safety education should also have a development in school kids, the University and Fonglun Elementary School jointly organized a science camp, where teachers and students at the Food Science and Biotechnology Department, based on the spirit of German apprenticeship system, worked hand in hand with remote school kids to understand the importance of food safety.
 

DYU Business Administration Dept. Hold the Smile Bazaar

Donate to underprivileged students

The Department of Business Administration at Da-Yeh University held a “Hand-in-hand Smile Bazaar”, where the students in the “Graphic & packaging design” course worked with what they learned to re-sort and re-pack merchandise, reinventing them, and sold for good cause. The proceeds all went to “Da-Yeh University Sound Program of Assistance to the Underprivileged”, whereby not only the merchandise was reinvented but the warmth was transmitted.
The Dean of College of Management says, to develop inter-disciplinary abilities in the students, the College is promoting the inter-disciplinary programs of “Micro-entrepreneurship”, “Cross-border e-commerce”, “Fintech” and “New media-based marketing & PR”. The recent “Hand-in-hand Smile Bazaar” demonstrated the students’ ability of inter-disciplinary application, during which they exhibited the abilities like planning, design, teamwork and marketing. But, above all, they did not ignore the university’s social responsibility.
 
Sprout locally – DYU promotes popular science education at the elementary
Associate Prof. Su-Hsien Hung at Department of Food Science and Biotechnology and Associate Prof. Chih-Wen Yu at Department of Molecular Biotechnology of Da-Yeh University were granted subsidy from the Ministry of Science and Technology for two year in a row in making happen a “Hands-on Plant Tissue Culture” project. Both the professors and the students arrive at the elementary schools in Dacun Township and Yuanlin township to lead the children in experiencing cultivation of plant tissues.
The project leader, Associate Prof. Su-Hsien Hung at Department of Food Science and Biotechnology was born in Changhua; while she has worked for a university in Changhua, she has longed to make contribution to the students of her hometown. In the project of the new academic year, which will last from this October to the end of next January, DYU will promote popular science activities at elementary schools. The “Hands-on Plant Tissue Culture” project, which includes practical experience, will inspire the interest in science in school kids. The kids not only learn the technique of plant tissue culture in the activity, they can also take home their culture works to share what they learn with their family, so as to further propagate the scientific education. 
 

DYU Department of English’s “English Guiding project” –

Receiving Common Wealth Magazine Education Foundation’s Subsidy for Ten Years

The Department of English at Da-Yeh University began rolling out its action, the “English Guiding project,” for benefitting the public since 2004, and has received subsidy from the “Common Wealth Magazine Hope Reading Project” of Common Wealth Magazine Education Foundation for ten consecutive years. The department’s students, led by the teachers, went to the elementary schools in remote areas to help underprivileged children upgrading their English ability.
The “Common Wealth Magazine Hope Reading Project”, a collaboration between the Department of English at Da-Yeh University and Common Wealth Magazine Education Foundation, began in 2010, with teachers leading the college students into elementary schools, where by the lively and interesting teaching method that combines plays, they spark the interest in learning English in school kids and make them in the rural areas speak up in English. In a micro-credit program provided by the General Education Center in this semester, the students are the seed teachers of the “English Guiding project”. Being from different departments like English, Leisure, Bakery and Restaurant, they rally their creativity to provide more diverse English teaching elements to bring the remote school kids various experiences in English learning and help them build their confidence.
 

AR Technology Increases Efficiency in Rescue —

DYU Dept. of Industrial Design Wins Silver in Great Design Competition

Senior students Chih-Yen Lin, Tai-Wei Peng, Chuan-I Huang, and Yuan-Yu Liu at the Department of Industrial Design, Da-Yeh University designed the “SRD AR Rescue Dog Remote Assistive Goggles” by combining 5G, virtual reality technology, and search and rescue dog goggles, which won a Silver Award in the Innovation and Technology category at the “Great Design Competition” Group, and they walked away with NT$100,000.
The “SRD AR Rescue Dog Remote Assistive Goggles”, which combines goggles, 5G and VR technology, can set a scope directly with technological aid for rescue dogs to relay in less time and in a smoother way, increasing their safety and the efficiency in rescue. The participants said to be very happy about this work being recognized by the judges and were deeply touched when receiving the award from the judges on the award ceremony. 
 

DYU Eco-Car Wins Three Titles

with Record-breaking 33 Laps and Wins for Six Years

The Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering and the Department of Industrial Design of Da-Yeh University joined forces in putting forward four vehicles in the 27th National Inter-Collegiate Eco-friendly Vehicle Competition, which was held on May 4, 2019 at the Vehicle Research and Test Center, Lugang, and won seven awards, becoming the biggest winner in this event. The team won three games: the e-car dynamic race, the fuel-saving vehicle dynamic race in category, and the vehicle making contest. The e-car even broke the Competition’s record with 33 laps, and Da-Yeh has won this game for six consecutive years.
According to President of the University, Cho-Chung Liang, in the annual Eco-friendly Vehicle Competition, which is a big event for mechanical engineering students each year, currently both the records of electric cars and fuel economic cars are held by DYU. With a new record of 33 laps by e-car in 2019, which marks the sixth championship in a row, and the achievement of 432.75 km on 1 liter of fuel by fuel economic car to take the first place, such feat is attributed to the educational spirit of German apprenticeship system at DYU. President Liang added, in that spirit, the teachers have led the students to learn by doing and the older students pass down their experience to the younger, whereby the students have developed their knowledge and skills well, enabling them to build a green runner from scratch.
