1. The Development of School Characteristics: Mentorship and Academy for Innovation Learning
◆ Establish a flexible and tailor-made educational system
Encourage students to participate in curriculum planning and guide them to foster the habit of independent learning. Establish a physical space and online platform for self-regulated learning salon. Students were able to design the curriculum, propose their interested subject content, consider their learning style and then invite partners with the same interest to form a study group. After submitting their proposal, the salon teacher team will evaluate students’ proposals and make suggestions. After the proposal is approved. Teachers and students jointly design the course syllabus and learning activities. Finally, after the class preparation is completed, students enroll in the class.
2. Teaching Innovation: Interdisciplinary Integration with the College as the Core
◆ Foster interdisciplinary practical talents
Our school focuses on fostering interdisciplinary practical talents. Students use their majors as the core and link out to other professions. The teaching team including teachers of Smart Living Workshop develops IoT innovative products interdisciplinary learning course. The course allows students of Department of Industrial Design to understand the mindset as an electronic engineer and working in the field of information technology. Each student uses design thinking to create the prototype, and then working with students from electronics field and information management to create APP by using Arduino various drivers and sensors.

3. International Study: Develop International Mobility
◆ Enhance teachers’ teaching ability and promote intercollegiate cooperation
Teacher Rui-Cheng Tsai of Department of Fine Arts and Culture Creative Design was invited by sister school, University of Castilla-La Mancha, UCLM to offer the lecture course titled “Traditional Techniques and Innovation in Chinese ink painting” in Spain. The course introduced theory of traditional painting and contemporary painting, and the basic composition of traditional Chinese ink painting, etc. Students were highly interested in the basic techniques of traditional Chinese ink painting. They created their personalized works with unique eastern style by integrating their familiar western painting skills.

◆Hand-on learning through mentorship – Study group
In order to motivate students with financial difficulties to involve in extracurricular reading, we encourage students to take part in the study group with their classmates. They have to decide a topic of their reading and set up a reading schedule. Group members have to finish the reading assignment each time, share their reflections and take part in the discussion. At the end of semester, students have to present and share their learning in the study group. The judge will evaluate their performance by their written report, strategies used, interaction between group members, reflections, oral presentation, content, etc. The final winner will receive rewards.
5. Regional Revitalization: University Social Responsibility
◆Encourage young people to engage in regional revitalization
In 2019, we called on alumni who loved Shihding, identified with regional revitalization and had studied courses in College of Industry and Social Innovation to form a regional revitalization youth group. Based on their expertise, they focused on Shihding’s industry, culture, history and landscapes and proposed many diverse industrial innovation, including products, landscapes, healing travel, and artistic creation.
◆Industrial innovation and promotion
In 2019, we signed the industry-academic cooperation project, “Northern Taiwan Tea Industry Cultural Promotion and Integrated Marketing,” with Shihding Tourism Association. We also participated in the “Northern Taiwan Tea Time with Youth” activity organized by the Industrial Development Bureau of Taipei City Government and the Water and Soil Conservation Bureau of the Agricultural Committee of the Executive Yuan in Yongkang park in Taipei City. We helped to promote Shidhing’s oriental beauty tea, Baozhong tea and tea-making activities. Western flowers and Shihding’s tea together create a unique and innovative flavor. By introducing Shihding’s tea to the international tourists in Yongkang Park, we not only promoted the tea, but also brought a new experience of tea to tourists.

◆Baigong School: Ceramic 3D printing workshop
Establish a ceramic 3D printing workshop. Teach students to assemble, operate and maintain ceramic 3D printers and foster students’ autonomous learning. Set up a PowerUp study group to study parametric design and then explore modeling and design development gradually by using computation and optimization. Verify the research and design by combining with the research and assembly of ceramic 3D printers and using the ceramic 3D fabrication to reflect the aesthetic education of technology and art.
2.Teaching Innovation: Interdisciplinary Integration with the College as the Core
◆Integrate the College of Industry and Social Innovation and General Studies – Practical Training of Social Design – Local Marketing and Communication
In June, 2019, the course of “Practical Training of Social Design – Local Marketing and Communication” aimed at compiling an issue of Shihding tourism and industrial cultural creation. The teacher led students to conduct the field study in Shihding community. They discovered the featured stores. Students were engaged in the whole process, including the selection of the stores, field study, interview, writing up, editing and graphic design. They not only finished the “Special Issue of Shihding Six Arts.” through learning by doing, but also held the “Presentation of Shihding Art and Tour Special Issue – One Day Tour in Shihding .” They guided the tourists to experience Shihding in depth via the route introduced in the special issue. By doing so, they brought new vigor and vitality to this place.
3. International Study: Develop International Mobility
◆Organize various international exchange activities and study tours – The encounter of Huafan and Onomichi , enjoy the beauty of “ eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.”
Teacher Long-Sheng Wang led students to Japan and visited sister school, Onomichi City University and participated in the forum in his international course of “ Traveling Image and Marketing Communication.” In the forum, they had a discussion about two universities’ geographical location and mission statement. They also thought about the relationship between “Odai” and “Onomichi” as well as “Huafan” and “Shihding.” In addition, they also discussed the promotion of manga of Detective Conan and the impact of the declining birth rate on the aging society. All of those discussions are unforgettable memories.

◆Off-Campus competition – Participate in the international World Cup Computer Application Skills Competition and gain good results.
The professor of Information Management Department, Ya Wen Zhang-Jian taught the course to help students to get the MOS license. Through the cooperation between the professor, industrial experts and teaching assistants, students were able to get the license and performed well in the MOS/ACA computer application skills competition.
In February, 2019, two students with financial problems got the first place of “MOS Excel 2016 Expert” and the third place of “MOS Word 2016 Expert” respectively in Taiwan. One of them became the representative player and went to New York to take part in “2019 Word Cup Computer Application Skills Competition” and got the fifth place in the world in “MOS Excel 2016 Expert.”
Huafan University provided grand to support students and students were able to focus on their competition without worrying their travel budget.
5. Regional Revitalization: University Social Responsibility
◆Huafan’s connection with local area and regional development direction
In 108 school year, students of College of Smart Living Technology exhibited their thematic works in their final exhibition. Most of their works were related to daily lives, such as using drone in the golf course at night, providing personal lighting in the court at night, and auto-following golf carts. All of their creations were practical and creative. Among them, the “Sky lantern recycling system” combining with the drones and VR glass skills successfully located the remains of the sky lanterns and eventually even signed the contract with local companies to identify the location of trash left behind.
