Project Highlights 2019

I. Teaching innovation and quality improvement

1. The administration research office was founded. A total of eight administration studies were conducted, and eight workshops on administration research were held on campus.

2. Five full-time instructors were hired, and 45 teaching and research personnel with excellent teaching or academic research were rewarded.

3. A total of 24 professional interdisciplinary growth communities were founded, and 72 related workshops and seminars were held.

4. The teaching assistant and warning counsel system were improved, and the proportion of students accepting counseling increased from 80% to 82%.

5. Courses in programming or logical reasoning, writing, Syntrend Creative Park, and interdisciplinarity were offered to students in every department.

6. A total of 231 heritage lectures by experts from industry, government, and academia were held by the university, colleges, and departments.

7. The number of students with a professional internship reached 1,359, and 178 students went on enterprise visits.

II. University development

1. The “Alcohol Beverage Brewing Technology” course was designed.

2. The low-carbon campus project was implemented, and facilities with solar energy/renewable electricity were completed.

3. The educational display and experience area with the integration of virtual reality, mixed reality, and eSports was established, the first of its kind among universities in Taiwan.

4. Digital collection knowledge education training was conducted, and the digitalization survey research results were published.

5. The electronic commerce laboratory was established, and students were provided with innovative management concepts.

6. The publication of the two English journals in a year of cooperation with Brill was completed. The overseas Chinese research library database was established, and an application was submitted to Scopus.

III. Increasing the “publicness” of higher education

1. The ratio of indigenous students and students from outlaying islands being admitted to the university in 2019 increased by almost 20% from 2018. Students from low-income and low- to middle-income households as well as students with special conditions were prioritized for admissions by individual application. Compared with 2018, the priority admission rate increased by nearly 50%.

2. Five self-management healthy diet activities were held, and a total of 570 students with an economic or cultural disadvantage participated.

3. A total of 217 students with an economic or cultural disadvantage were assisted in one-on-one health counseling, and 198 students received mental counseling.

4. The “university student self- care” course was established with topic lectures included. Approximately 710 students participated.

IV. Taking up our social responsibility

1. Four artistic and cultural activities were held.

2. A total of 60 trainees completed the library volunteer training.

3. Two teams of volunteers were sent to Indonesia and Myanmar for service. Three teams served in other regions in Taiwan.

4. The Kinmen research tourism and education center promoted outdoor slacklining and trained 19 instructors.
