National Taiwan University of Arts Project Highlights
Achievements and Highlights of the 2025 Project

I. Deepening Creative Teaching and Research Experiments

1. Enriching Teaching Content and Diversifying Learning Pathways

(1) Strengthening Cross-disciplinary Learning

To enhance students’ autonomy and cross-disciplinary competence, the University reduced required professional credits, increased cross-domain credit, and developed courses integrating contemporary issues, technology, and industry applications.
This year, 1,752 enrollments were recorded in cross-disciplinary courses, marking a 20% increase compared to 2023.

In addition, the University actively promoted the “Exploration Domain Specialty Credits,” with 11 departments offering 14 modules (78 courses). The total enrollment reached 1,334, including 118 cross-department enrollments. Moving forward, institutional research (IR) data will be utilized to assess course completeness and maturity to further enhance overall teaching effectiveness.

(2) Strengthening Bilingual Education and International Collaboration

This year, the University established the Bilingual Education Promotion Office and collaborated with Dr. Michael Smith, Director of the English Language Center at the University of Texas at Austin, to offer EMI teacher training.
Furthermore, cross-institutional cooperation agreements were signed with National Taiwan Normal University and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology to promote EMI training, cross-campus course selection, and administrative resource sharing.
As a result, the number of EMI courses increased from 6 courses in 2023 to 12 courses in 2024, achieving a 100% growth.

2.Developing Professional and Cross-disciplinary Features

Through domain specialty programs, the University nurtured students’ abilities to develop IP-oriented creative expertise and core skills.
This year, six signature “Artistic Vanguard Projects” integrating professional and cross-disciplinary strengths were launched, including:

  • AI Virtual Media Lab Establishment and Talent Development Project
  • AI and Digital Transformation Innovative Thinking Talent Development Project
  • “Resonance of Sonic Variants” – AI Audio System and Professional Audio Algorithm Project
  • Digital New Media Art Creation and Education Enhancement Project
  • Ink-making and Cultural Creative Development Project
  • Other projects featuring specialized and cross-disciplinary innovation

With strategic resource investment, these initiatives further strengthened experimental teaching and research outcomes and advanced the development of unique artistic IPs within the University.

II. Shaping a Comprehensive Industry-Academia Cultivation Platform

1. Integrating Learning with Application to Promote Practical Outcomes The "Cultural and Creative Studio" focuses on cultivating student teams in specialized artistic R&D, practical application, and commercialization models. This year, 18 teams were selected, producing 36 works. Through a diverse range of methods including coursework, consultation, exhibitions, and progress management, students were guided to transform their creative energy into brand operations. Additionally, six teams were invited to exhibit at "Pop Up Asia" this year, interacting with over one hundred creative handcraft brands from across Asia.

2. Cultivating Outstanding Research and Creative Talents to Deepen Creative Development

(1) Spark of Arts Program The "Spark of Arts Program" awards annual grants to 10 master’s and doctoral students to support advanced academic research or the development of exhibition/performance works. This initiative aims to bolster their strengths for establishing themselves in academia and entering the industry. This year, a doctoral student from the Graduate Institute of Creative Industries presented their paper, "Using AIGC to Support Cultural Innovation Design," at the HCI International Conference in Sweden.

(2) International Competition Incentive Program To achieve the goal of cultivating internationally competitive artistic talents, the University has continuously invested resources in the "International Competition Incentive Program" since 2023 (Academic Year 112). This program encourages and supports students in bringing their exceptional creative and academic achievements to the global stage. It not only serves as a rigorous validation of student work quality but also significantly enhances their international competitiveness. In terms of tangible results, students have received recognition from prestigious global awards in design, crafts, and film/media. Notable accolades include the "Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design" (top honor in design), the "Itami International Craft Exhibition" (Japan), the Platinum Remi Award at the "WorldFest–Houston International Film Festival," and the Best Newcomer Award at the "Jena Fulldome Festival" (Germany) for new media art. Through these resource investments, the University's teaching quality and student creative capacity across artistic fields have reached a world-class standard.

III. Fostering a Contemporary International Arts and Cultural Industry Chain

1. Yearly Growth in International Mobility This year, the University actively promoted faculty and student participation in international teaching, exhibitions, and exchanges. A total of 8 teams and 91 individuals received subsidies to participate in activities across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. This represents a growth of approximately 26% compared to 2024 (Academic Year 113), significantly elevating the teaching and creative content of faculty and students to an international standard and enhancing the global visibility of the University's artistic capacity. Highlighted achievements include a film department work selected for the "International Short Film Festival Oberhausen" (Germany), Visual Communication Design students traveling to Japan for the "Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai Design Competition," and Multimedia and Animation Arts students invited to exhibit at "BitSummit 2025" (The 13th Independent Game Festival).

2. Revitalizing the Local Arts Ecosystem with University-Level Capacity The "Daguan International Performance Art Festival" (held since 2016) aims to showcase the quality of the University's professional talent cultivation and its cross-disciplinary energy. This year, five original programs were produced, with a core achievement being the deep integration of forward-looking AI technology. Through strategic industry cooperation with Microsoft and other partners, the headline program P_2095 successfully utilized Large Language Models (LLM) and AI technology in its performance creation. This established an exemplary model for combining technology and art, creating an original work with IP potential, and building sustainable creative energy and brand identity for the University in the field of techno-art. Simultaneously, through international performances, workshops, and exchange concerts with the "Faculty of Music at Tokyo University of the Arts," the festival assisted students in accumulating practical experience and deepening professional skills and international perspectives. To revitalize the local arts ecosystem, residents of the Fuzhou area and students from schools in the Taipei-New Taipei-Keelung-Taoyuan region were invited to participate, promoting cultural accessibility and rooting artistic practice in social responsibility.

IV. Advancing Internationalization in Arts Education

The University continued to strengthen its international teaching, research, and performance foundation through diverse administrative and cultural support systems.
This year, the University offered:

  • 14-week Chinese course program (16 student enrollments)
  • 10 1-on-1career workshops for international students
  • 4 value-added international experience lectures
  • 4 cross-disciplinary cultural exchange activities (80 participants)
  • 3 international arts camp (90 participants)

One highlight was the international arts camp co-taught by Prof. Yi Tae-Won (Myongji University, Korea) and Taiwanese director Wang Hong-Yuan, which significantly enhanced students’ vocal and performance skills.

Through expanded cultural exchanges and strengthened support measures, the University effectively improved the teaching and learning environment for international faculty and students, achieving substantial progress in deepening internationalization.
