The overarching aim of Nanhua University’s Higher Education Sprout Project Phase II, Stage 2 (2025–2027; AY 114–116) is to “cultivate a model sustainable university that is locally rooted and globally engaged, strengthening the University’s Mind–Body–Spirit brand while fostering students endowed with five core competencies: learning capability, employability, green literacy, social responsibility, and well-being.” The progress toward achieving these goals is summarized as follows:
1. Strengthening Curriculum and Quality Assurance: Indicators for Interdisciplinary and Self-Directed Learning Fully Achieved
To enhance curriculum development and quality assurance, the University refined its academic departments in alignment with its mid- to long-term development plan and continued to strengthen distinctive departmental features, interdisciplinary curriculum design, self-directed learning, and competency-based instruction. Among day-program undergraduates, 47.04% completed interdisciplinary coursework; 26.83% of full-time faculty provided interdisciplinary courses; 4.67% participated in co-teaching or cross-department collaboration; 20.01% of students fulfilled an interdisciplinary program; modular courses constituted 2.67% of undergraduate offerings; and 60.71% of general education courses incorporated experiential or hands-on activities, demonstrating both quantitative achievement and qualitative advancement.
2. Advancing Industry–Academia Integration: Enhancing Students’ Problem-Solving Skills and Employment Satisfaction
To strengthen industry–academia integration, the Institutional Research Office continually analyzed career counseling and related data, reinforced tracking mechanisms, advanced learning–certification–competition alignment, and broadened the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The University also established flexible academic structures with career transition support. UCAN “Problem-Solving” competency scores rose from 3.67 (pre-test) to 3.79 (post-test); 9.17% of students participated in internships or workplace experience programs; and overall graduate employment satisfaction reached 87.58%.
3. Advancing Toward Campus Carbon Neutrality by 2028: Growth and Achievement in Social Engagement and Green Literacy Indicators
In advancing the 2028 Campus Carbon Neutrality Roadmap, Nanhua University ranked among the Top 100 Green Universities worldwide for nine consecutive years (AY 105–114). The University continued implementing USR Hub incubation initiatives, securing five approved projects, and received the 2025 Taiwan Sustainability Action Award (SDG4 Gold Award) and the APSAA Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Award (SDG11 Gold Award). A total of 21.25% of students completed courses with social engagement components, and performance across six green-action domains—food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and recreation—improved and met all benchmarks.
4. Advancing Equity and Support: Strengthening Awards, Assistance, and Empowerment for Economically Disadvantaged Students
In promoting equity, inclusion, and social justice, the University strengthened its friendly campus initiatives, enhanced learning centers, expanded learning-instead-of-work support, and provided targeted assistance for economically or culturally disadvantaged students. In AY 112 and AY 113, students participating in the support program outperformed non-participants by 7.3 and 8.7 points in semester averages; in AY 113 and AY 114, 14.4% and 14.9% of students received economic or cultural support services; and indicators of social responsibility—doing good deeds, speaking kindly, and fostering compassion—continued to improve and achieved their targets.
5. Advancing Life Education and Environmental Sustainability to Elevate the University’s Distinctive Brand
Nanhua University further strengthened its brand identity in life education and environmental sustainability, earning sustained recognition both domestically and internationally. The University ranked 401–600 worldwide in the 2023–2024 THE Impact Rankings for two consecutive years and remained among the Top 100 Green Universities globally. In 2024 (AY 114), the University received the Excellence in Green Procurement Award (Private Organizations and Groups Category). Its Environmental Education Institution and Facility, approved by the Ministry of Environment in 2020, were successfully renewed in 2025 (AY 114), reflecting continued progress in sustainability education.
The University also hosted the 2024 Organic World Congress—“Cultivating Organic, Realizing Sustainability”—which drew approximately 3,000 participants from more than 60 countries. In life education, Nanhua University received the Ministry of Education’s Life Education Model School Award for the fifth time, remaining the only university nationwide to hold this distinction. From AY 111 to AY 114, the Taiwan Life Education Imagery Hall welcomed 391 visiting schools and community groups, totaling over 10,935 visitors, including 61 rural schools (1,973 participants), underscoring the University’s expanding societal influence in life education.
