2025 Higher Education Sprout Project

Summary and Highlights of Accomplishments

China Medical University’s performance under the MOE Higher Education Sprout Project funding for 2025 is highlighted in six aspects:

 

  1. Enhance Teaching Innovation

CMU is ranked the first in the number of “College Student Research Project” funded by National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) among the private universities, demonstrating the superb performance of CMU students’ self-directed learning. CMU I-Lab continuously promotes innovative education and the innovative teams formed by teachers and students achieved excellent results in competitions, including the teams’ “Silver Light Entertainment” and “Boccia! Boccia!”, which were selected for the 2025 Young Fly Global Mobility Program. In addition, “Sage for Silver” was awarded the Outstanding Team Award in the Youth Community Health Service Competition. To enhance students’ competence in AI and programming, CMU has been cultivating students’ AI and programming abilities starting from their first year. In 2025, students’ course completion and international certification results were as follows: AIL Fundamental: 43% (119/273), AIL Specialist: 69% (78/113), and ICTP Python: 27% (72/262). The CMU Center for Bilingual Education has been promoting bilingual education, with a decent result of 352 sophomores achieving CEFR B2 level in English in 2025. CMU students performed exceptionally well in the 2025 National License Examinations. CMU students had a pass rate above the national average in 9 out of 10 categories, and achieved a pass rate exceeding 90% in six departments. CMU ranked the 1st nationwide in the Medical Technologist License Examination, and achieved a 100% pass rate in both the Nurse and Pharmacist License Examinations.

  1. Implement Social Responsibility

All colleges of CMU actively implement 29 USR initiatives focusing on aging and health issues, collaborate with Central Taiwan USR Alliance to execute two Germination USR projects, and use social investment impact methodology to optimize its social responsibility and sustainability programs. CMU has received multiple recognitions including the Executive Yuan National Sustainable Development Award, Sustainable Model University Award, TCSA, TSAA, TUSA, and the top three in Global Views Monthly and CommonWealth Magazine USR competitions.

  1. Promote Industry-Academia Collaboration

In 2025, CMU has 17 disciplines ranked among the top 1% of 22 “Essential Science Indicator (ESI)” research categories. There were 44 China Medical University and Healthcare System scholars honorably recognized in the “Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking list” and 50 in the “2024 Scientific Impact Ranking list.” CMU faculty and student teams also received four “Future Tech Awards.” In addition, CMU established “Sinowell Global Health Pte. Ltd.” in Singapore in partnership with Singaporean R&D collaborator.

  1. Increase Public Accessibility of Higher Education

CMU implemented the “Learning Instead of Part-time Work” program, providing NT$12.25 million in subsidies to 435 disadvantaged students. The Smile Medical Service Team received the National Youth Award for Outstanding Service Organizations among universities. CMU was also recognized by the Ministry of Education as a “Character Education Model University,” with a cumulative service outreach of 10,663 participants.

The Lifu Museum of Chinese Medicine organized themed activities promoting inclusiveness for the elderly and dementia patients, and strengthening community health education and public engagement. In addition, the Institutional Research Cloud Visualization Platform has completed 20 indicators and 12 issue analyses, ensuring sustainable governance and education quality.

  1. Strengthen International Administration Support System

CMU Office of Global Affairs organized eight seminars promoting knowledge of staff to support non-domestic students, four discussion forums for non-domestic students, and nine cultural activities, attracting a total of over 300 participants with an average satisfaction rate of 94.2%. Moreover, we held three career seminars by international alumni to promote interaction among non-domestic students and their career development in Taiwan. CMU Office of Global Affairs has honorably received the recognition as the "Outstanding Staff for Overseas Student Counseling" from Overseas Community Affairs Council in 2025.

  1. International Key Colleges

CMU continues to strengthen its interdisciplinary smart healthcare initiatives by advancing research collaborations, recruiting 23 international faculty members, and hosting international conferences and bilateral symposia. In 2025, CMU signed an MOU with Israel’s Sheba ARC and established the “ARC Taiwan” hub. In terms of AI talent cultivation, 32 CMU students completed international Coursera courses, and a specialized course on AI and Federated Learning was offered, training 26 students with hands-on modeling experience and achieving a course satisfaction rate of 97.2%. A 10G network for the Supercomputing Center was also completed, establishing a world-class smart healthcare base.
