Founded in 1980 along the scenic Sizihwan Bay in Kaohsiung, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) stands as Taiwan's only university with a coastline on campus. Guided by our core values of (AI)² = Artistic & Inclusive × Advanced & Innovative, we are committed to becoming a world-class comprehensive university that harmoniously balances the humanities and sciences. NSYSU has grown into a multi-disciplinary institution comprising 10 colleges: Liberal Arts, Science, Engineering, Management, Marine Sciences, Social Sciences, Si-Wan, Medicine, Banking and Finance, and Semiconductor and Advanced Technology Research. As of the second semester of the 2024 academic year, we serve 11,214 students with 575 full-time faculty members.
Since 2020, NSYSU has firmly positioned itself as an "international top-tier research university" and launched a comprehensive 10-Year English-Medium Instruction Initiative. In 2022, we established the first national university medical school in the Greater Kaohsiung-Pingtung region, dedicated to our mission of "Healthcare Without Rural Gaps."
Our academic excellence is reflected in international rankings: 11 research fields ranking in the global top 1% for citations in the ESI database; we consistently place among the top five public universities nationally in the 2025 Global Views Monthly magazine rankings, earning both the "Public University Exemplar Award" and the championship in the "Medium-Large University" category; and 20 disciplines appear in the QS 2025 World University Rankings by Subject, placing us fifth nationally.
Looking ahead, NSYSU aspires to become "the Harvard of Southern Taiwan," providing the talent and innovation that Greater Southern Taiwan needs for its development. We are committed to driving innovative momentum and cultivating human capital for the region, elevating Kaohsiung to international prominence, and fostering sustained prosperity and growth throughout Southern Taiwan.
