Summary of Goal Achievement and Highlights
National Taitung University (NTTU) continues to build a systematic and goal-oriented learning vision. The four major achievements and highlights are explained as follows:
Goal 1: Cultivating Cross-Disciplinary Self-learning Directed Talent
We introduced diverse self-directed learning courses, achieving a student participation rate of 28%. Additionally, 109 teams participated in the Student-Initiated Course Proposal Program, showing significant growth compared to the previous year. We promoted exploratory learning in the first-year micro-projects, integrating social practice elements, which led to 81% of academic departments participating and significant improvements in the six key competencies. Cross-disciplinary micro-programs were established in alignment with the university’s “Green International University” institutional vision. With the addition of an AI-focused dimension, the number of interdisciplinary micro-programs increased to 17. Along with three interdisciplinary modules from three colleges, the completion rate rose to 26%, with 20% of faculty participating in interdisciplinary courses, producing 42 teaching materials and assessment tools. Through innovative teaching plans, 18 MOE teaching practice research programs were approved, and 5 faculty members received Outstanding Project Awards. We also strengthened 18 integrated courses, showing significant improvements in post-test scores, which are higher than those of students who did not participate. The number of students participating in internship courses has reached 473, marking a 10.35% annual growth rate. Moreover, the employment internship program for the entire semester has resulted in a corporate retention rate of 83% for students.
Goal 2: Establishing Taitung as a Green and Culturally Sustainable Base
Under Goal 2, “Building Taitung as a Green and Cultural Sustainability Base,” the university continued offering social engagement courses, totaling 91 courses with a 58% completion rate.
Sustainable development education was integrated into curriculum design through experiential learning approaches. A total of 217 general education courses featuring experiential, hands-on, or case-based learning were offered. These courses connected to local green production and consumption circular economy value chains. In collaboration with Far Eastern University of Technology in the Philippines, a cross-disciplinary workshop was held, resulting in 48 outcome transformations.
The university also participated in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, placing 51st among 1,477 universities worldwide and 17th among 866 universities in Asia, continuing to deepen green sustainability practices.
Goal 3: Collaborating on Key Talent Development and Industry Upgrading
We have strengthened connections with local high schools and provided counseling and financial aid to underprivileged students. Students who received the scholarship of Taitung University performed better academically than those who did not receive the grant, with their grades surpassing the general student average. In terms of local talent development, the number of first-year students registered in Taitung has increased from 6.59% in 2022 to 7.81% in 2024.
We have created an entrepreneurial practice ecosystem, combining courses with student participation in both on-campus and off-campus practical projects, as well as in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. A total of 144 student entries participated in these competitions, with 34 winning awards. These efforts resulted in 9 products transitioning to marketable outcomes.
Faculty and students have combined academic research with industry-academic collaboration, producing 37 research projects and 4 cultural and creative brands. In our innovation and entrepreneurship curriculum series, 34 entrepreneurial teams were formed by faculty and students, leading to the establishment of new startups. We also provided guidance on 4 innovative entrepreneurship projects.
In terms of industry-academia integration, we have collaborated with food biotechnology factories to assist micro-enterprises in trial production, testing, and sales. We incorporated ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and carbon inventory consulting to expand the breadth and depth of our services. We matched 9 supplier needs and completed 10 product projects, all of which were adopted by industry partners. These products were launched and underwent technology transfer, estimating to generate an additional 6.02 million NT in value.
Through industry-academia integration, we supported enterprises in driving innovation, transformation, and product upgrading. With the professional resources of the university —such as the manufacturing facility and the Innovation & Incubation Center—we strengthened industrial innovation capacity and accelerated the commercialization process. Products were also test-marketed in the on-campus internship store, generating approximately 2.35 million NT in additional retail-derived value.
Goal 4: Enhancing International Mobility
For Goal 4, “Enhancing International Mobility,” the university fostered a local yet globally connected international campus culture. Through international exchange platforms, 385 instances of student participation were recorded.
International partnerships continued to deepen, with 54 sister universities established. Bilateral international mobility programs such as flipped classrooms were promoted, and four university courses incorporated overseas field learning with 59 students participating.
Through diversified online Mandarin teaching platforms, 39 Mandarin instructors were trained, and 6 sets of Eastern Taiwan–themed Mandarin teaching materials were developed. Digital learning materials on Austronesian and Indigenous cultures were expanded, alongside the development of “Austronesian Culture” specialty courses, continuously enhancing the university’s unique localized internationalization characteristics.
