Achievement Summary and Highlights
This project encompasses initiatives in enhancing teaching innovation, fulfilling social responsibility, fostering industry–academia collaboration, increasing publicness in higher education, advancing international administrative support systems, and promoting international key research areas. Major achievements in 2023 and 2024 include the following:
- Enhancing Teaching Innovation: (1) Promotion of interdisciplinary education has led to the development of 24 interdisciplinary micro-programs, which all undergraduate students are required to complete prior to graduation. (2) In 2023 and 2024, the themes of digital self-learning and innovation and entrepreneurship respectively earned the National Open Education Excellence Award - Open Educational Resource Utilization Model Award. (3) Our institution was recognized as an outstanding school under the ITSA program of the Ministry of Education in 2023. (4) In 2024, the bilingual learning domain program achieved benchmark status under the Higher Education Bilingual Learning Program.
- Fulfilling Social Responsibility: (1) Our institution ranked within the 101st to 200th range in the 2023–2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings and received 9 awards for social responsibility and sustainable development, including the Executive Yuan National Sustainable Development Awards and the TCAS Taiwan University Sustainability Award in 2024. (2) Certifications such as ISO14064 for greenhouse gas verification and ISO50001 for energy management systems have been obtained. (3) Sustainability reports have been regularly disclosed since 2022. (4) Medical services and talent cultivation have been provided to underserved and remote regions in Taiwan, as well as to allied nations internationally.
- Fostering Industry–Academia Collaboration: (1) Regarding advancing innovation and entrepreneurship education, successful implementation has led to student teams winning several national competition awards. In 2023, outstanding teams in the second phase of the U-Start program received a total of NT$2.45 million in grants, the highest amount awarded nationwide. (2) During 2023 and 2024, industry–academia collaboration funding reached NT$1.625 billion, with a cumulative total of 556 patents. Technology transfer revenue amounted to NT$62.5 million (including equity), and 28 spin-off companies were established. (3) Three precision health and five STEM interdisciplinary talent development programs were approved in 2023 and 2024. (4) Three specialized programs for promoting international students to study and stay in Taiwan were established for the 2024 academic year. (5) In June 2023, the nation’s only “Trinity” Shuang Ho Biomedical Park combining a medical university, a medical center, and the biomedical industry was launched. paving the way for close collaboration in basic, clinical, and industrial research.
- Enhancing Publicness in Higher Education: (1) In addition to tuition fee waivers and bursaries for underprivileged students, extra financial aids of NT$180,000 and NT$120,000 are yearly provided for students from low-income and low-to-middle-income households, respectively. The approval rate for financial aid applications reached 100%. (2) Admission quotas for economically disadvantaged students and culturally disadvantaged students have been increased to 35 and 80, respectively, for the 2024 academic year. (3) The Indigenous Student Resource Center has been enhanced to provide personalized guidance and support, resulting in an 8% improvement in their annual academic rankings.
- International Administrative Support Systems: (1) International administrative service coverage reached 84.8% across primary units. Between 2023 and 2024, 43 English-language video modules for administrative training were developed. (2) Foreign language proficiency has been incorporated into promotion criteria for staff members. Staff members promoted to senior positions in 2023 all received TOEIC Green Certificate or above. (3) Over 100 short-term research topics were offered in 2024, attracting more than 200 international students.
- International Key Research Areas: (1) Our institution has emphasized research in cancer translational medicine, neuromedicine, smart medical devices, and thoracic medicine, with our identity positioned as an innovative university. (2) Collaboration with leading universities supported young scholars such as Associate Professor Si-Han Wu’s research on mRNA vaccines in Nobel Laureate Drew Weissman’s laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania. (3) In 2024, Professor Thierry Pierre Robert Burnouf received the Executive Yuan Outstanding Contribution in Science and Technology Award; Associate Professors Shan-Ying Wu and Kuei-Hung Lai were honored with the Ta-You Wu Memorial Award; Professors Cheng-Yu Chen and Wei-Chiao Chang received the Wang Ming-Ning Award. In 2023, Professor Cheng-Yu Chen earned the NSTC Outstanding Research Award, Professor Yu-Jui Fan received the Ta-You Wu Memorial Award, and Professor Wei-Chiao Chang was awarded the Wu Huo-Su TBF Medical Award.
