Phase One (2023-2024) Higher Education Sprout Project
Summary and Highlights of Accomplishments
China Medical University's performance under the MOE Higher Education Sprout Project funding for 2023-2024 is highlighted in five aspects:
1. Enhance Teaching Innovation
CMU is ranked the first in the number of “College Student Research Project” funded by National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) among the private universities, demonstrating the superb performance of CMU students’ self-directed learning. CMU I-Lab continuously promotes innovative education. CMU students demonstrated their outstanding creativity and had won 5 first prizes, 6 second prizes, and 4 honorable mentions in the 2023 Sustainable Smart Innovation Hackathon competition. CMU collaborated with MUJI to hold "OPEN MUJI" Sustainable Solutions Exhibition, displaying the work of Student Innovation Teams. The number of enrollments in digital technology courses steadily increased, with 359 CMU students obtaining international AIL or ICTP certifications in 2024. The CMU Bilingual Education Center has been promoting bilingual education, with a decent result of 247 sophomores achieving CEFR B2 level in English in 2024. CMU also receives the recognition as a benchmark university in the category of "Biology, Medicine and Agricultural Sciences" in the MOE Bilingual Education Program for University Students. CMU students performed exceptionally well in National License Examinations, with 9 License pass rates above the national average. CMU is ranked the 1st in Medical Technologist (2023) and the 2nd in Nurse and Medical Radiation Technologist (2024) nationwide.
2. Implement Social Responsibility
Each college of CMU actively integrates SDGs into curricula and programs through implementing 29 USR initiatives, establishing cross-disciplinary sustainability micro-programs, collaborating with Central Taiwan USR Alliance, conducting Sustainability Learning Week, and focusing on the aging and health issues. CMU implemented two Germination USR projects in 2023-2024. Using social investment impact methodology, CMU optimized its social responsibility and sustainability programs, receiving multiple recognitions including the Executive Yuan National Sustainable Development Award, TCSA, TSAA, TAISE, and the top three in Global Views Monthly and CommonWealth Magazine USR competitions.
3. Promote Industry-Academia Collaboration
In 2023, CMU has 16 disciplines ranked among the top 1% of 22 “Essential Science Indicator (ESI)” research categories. There were 59 China Medical University and Healthcare System scholars honorably listed in the "Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking list" and 61 in the "2023 Scientific Impact Ranking list." In 2024, CMU received 2 Taiwan Germination Program Awards and 2 Future Tech Awards. At the “NBRP Pitch Day,” 3 CMU teams reached the final, and won 1 Outstanding Team Award and 1 Potential Team Award.
4. Increase Public Accessibility of Higher Education
CMU implemented the "Learning Instead of Part-time Work" program (2023-2024), providing NT$24.31 million in subsidies to disadvantaged students, mentoring 78 students to apply for “NSTC-College Student Research Project”, and matching 33 students with corporate sponsorships totaling NT$4.96 million. A total of 140 students completed special education volunteer training, with 121 teams serving 27,406 beneficiaries. A sophomore from the College of Pharmacy received the 2024 " Good People and Good Deed Representative and the First Social Education Dedication Model Award in Greater Taichung Area." The Lifu Museum of Chinese Medicine promoted traditional Chinese medicine culture and propagandized proper medication knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine through community outreach. The Institutional Research Cloud Visualization Platform has expanded to 18 indicators and completed 28 issue analyses, ensuring sustainable governance and education quality.
5. Strengthen International Administration Support System
The CMU Office of Global Affairs has been implementing three internationalization strategies on campus. The Office of Global Affairs has honorably received the recognition as the "Outstanding Staff for International Student Counseling" and "Outstanding University for International Student Counseling" from the Ministry of Education in 2024.
