Highlights of Xuanzang University’s 113-year Higher Education Deepening Plan

The following summarizes the achievements and highlights of the first phase 2023–2024:



1. Promoting Teaching Innovation and Enhancing Quality



Incentivizing Teaching Excellence:



Implemented diverse reward mechanisms to encourage teaching excellence, including the Excellence in Teaching Award (教學優良教師獎勵), Merit Pay for Exceptional Teachers (優良教師彈性薪資獎勵), and Core Teaching Competency Award (教師教學核心能力獎勵).



Encouraging Collaborative Professional Communities:



Fostered interdisciplinary teacher professional communities for knowledge sharing and collaboration. Supported faculty in applying for teaching practice research projects, leading to:




  1. Annual international conferences on teaching practice, featuring 25 research papers.

  2. Publication of 13 papers in the Teaching Practice Research Forum journal (「教學實務研究論叢」期刊.

  3. Approval of 7 projects under the Ministry of Education's Teaching Practice Research Program.



Supporting Various Teaching Initiatives:



Teachers were encouraged to apply for various teaching projects, including:




  1. Teaching Innovation: 69 projects NT$2 million.

  2. Smart Teaching Digitization: 37 projects NT$760,000.

  3. University Social Responsibility USR: 17 projects NT$2.19 million.

  4. Student-Teacher Collaborative Learning: 50 projects NT$280,000.



These projects enriched students’ learning experiences and expanded their perspectives.



Upgrading Teaching Facilities:



Established a comprehensive media live streaming center(Figure 1), an experimental theater(Figure 2), and upgraded the "Maker Incubator" (創客教室)(Figure 3) and "H!-tech Cloud Classroom" (雲端智慧教室)(Figure 4). Installed extended reality XR hardware and software to support professional courses and made these resources available to both internal and external students, faculty, and organizations for experiential learning.

2. Fulfilling Social Responsibility



Local Engagement Projects:




  1. Through the “Xinpu Hankeng Persimmon Family Innovation and Sustainability Project” (新埔旱坑柿家創新永續計畫)(Figure 5) and the “Atayal Balai: In-Depth Tribal Leisure Industry Promotion Project” (泰雅爾ž巴來-深度部落休閒產業推動計畫)(Figure 6), efforts were made to cultivate deeper connections in the Hsinchu region. These initiatives encouraged faculty to develop innovative curricula and guided students toward interdisciplinary learning.

  2. Faculty and students from the Department of Fashion Design implemented the “Healing Power of Artistic Design” 藝術設計療癒的神奇魅力) project, introducing handcrafted art courses to bring art into the lives of senior citizens.

  3. The Department of Art and Creative Design carried out the “Painting Xiangshan” (繪畫香山) project, creating the picture book Where Did Grandma Longan Go? (《龍眼奶奶去哪兒?》)(Figure 7), which guided Xiangshan Elementary School students to learn about their hometown's Hakka culture, fostering a deep-rooted appreciation for local heritage.

Community Service:

Established 14 local engagement practice sites, with 475 student participations in community service courses. Supported the Xinpu Hankeng community in winning the 2023 National Golden Rural Competition (全國金牌農村競賽) Bronze Award and the 2024 Silver Award, earning NT$360,000 in rural marketing subsidies.



3. Industry-Academia Collaboration



Distinctive Departmental Contributions:




  1. The Department of Mass Communication established a live event broadcasting team, streaming the National High School Games(Figure8) and National Intercollegiate Athletic Games for kabaddi and tennis.(Figure9) Team members secured internships with ELTA TV to cover the Olympic Games in France.(Figure10)

  2. Faculty and students from the Department of Fashion Design designed costumes and makeup for the musical Dream of Tomorrow (《明日之夢》), handling styling and wardrobe changes during the performance.

Entrepreneurship and Competitions:

Launched a "Micro-Entrepreneurship" credit program 「微型創業」學分學程 and the "Dream Realization Awards" (築夢實踐獎) to mentor student entrepreneurial teams. Achievements include:




  1. Fashion student Yang Hung Yi (楊紘亦) winning the 2024 MUSE Design Awards Gold Prize in the U.S.(Figure11)






  1. Multiple team awards such as the Golden Glass Awards (金玻獎) and Golden Garment Awards (金裳獎).(Figure12)






  1. Department of Social Work student team securing third place in the “Fuzhu Cup” Board Game Contest for Lesson Plan Design (「富足盃」桌遊大賽-教案設計競賽).(Figure13)





4. Enhancing the Public Role of Higher Education



Support for Economically Disadvantaged Students:



Provided assistance through coaching class programs and self-directed learning systems, offering over NT$10 million in scholarships to 856 recipients, including funding for 20 students to study abroad.According to 2024 statistics, subsidized students earned an average salary of NT$33,917, exceeding the general youth average NT$33,905. 



Expanding International Horizons:



Promoted "Student Study Abroad Programs" (「學生移地教學」)(Figure14), sponsoring students and faculty for overseas study trips to Germany and Japan, broadening global perspectives.
