National Taiwan University of Arts Project Highlights
Program Achievements and Highlights

I. Enhance the development of creative arts teaching and research experience:

1. Revitalize the application of teaching contents and diversify learning options: A total of 134 instructors participated in 59 interdisciplinary courses from 2023 to this year (2024), benefiting 929 students. We will continue to offer interdisciplinary learning that is outside of the existing system.

2. Develop professional interdisciplinary characteristics of each department: This year, we developed a “Pilot Program” that encompassed 12 professional fields and interdisciplinary characteristics, including - identification of ancient Chinese wooden building materials, cultivation of visual communication design capabilities, interdisciplinary experimental jewelry making with visual and tactile senses, VR real-time rendering of animation production, video content creation with AI technology, sound experimentation by mixing/recording samples, production of digital performances for new media programs, university community collaborative practices in arts, creation of a Japanese contemporary art troupe, and more. Through resource injection, we are able to deepen the development of teaching and experimentation to amplify the university's own characteristics.

II. Shape an all-round platform of industry-academia cultivation:

1. Encourage the integration of learning and application by actively promoting practical results: The “Cultural & Creative Office” focuses on student teams that specialize in the R&D of artistic and creative practices and business models. For example, a total of 14 teams were selected creating 36 art pieces in 2023 and 20 teams were selected creating 36 art pieces this year. Recently, the short film “Pork Belly” made by “Pork Belly Pictures” won the laurels at two international film festivals. It was also a semi-finalist at the Mirada Corta Short Film Festival in Mexico and finalist at the International Usak Short Film Festival in Turkey.

2. Promote outstanding creative talent for in-depth creative work: Each year, the “Art Spark Program” awards master' and doctorate degrees to 10 students to help further develop their academic research or performance works, giving them a strong foothold in their academic field and when they enter the sector. The highlight this year was the 6DoF VR documentary “The Theater and I”, open to the public at TTXC in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture’s “one plus four T-content plan”. The documentary was also selected by TAICCA with the Taiwan Technology & Culture Pavilion set up at the “2024 XR & Metaverse Fair Tokyo” for business opportunities.

III. Creation of a contemporary international cultural and creative industry chain:

1. Increase in international mobility: 9 teams of 42 in 2023 and 12 teams of 43 this year were subsidized to participate in international teaching competitions in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Compared to 2022 where only 4 teams of 7 were subsidized to enter similar competitions, the number of participants has grown considerably. This has greatly elevated the teaching and creative contents of faculty members and students to international standards, gaining visibility for the University’s artistic capacity.

2. Boost local arts and cultural ecosystem with University capacity: From 2016, the “Greater Taipei Arts Festival” has launched self-produced programs - for example, scholars from Europe and Asia were invited to act in 2023's "LIMITLESS” and 2024's “Space-time Boundary”. This year, 12 students had the opportunity to work with a Japanese team. Meanwhile, with AI-generated technology, Golden Melody Award winner for Best Band “A_Root” performed in the creative Chinese musical “You’re So Strange”. Furthermore, 815 faculty members and students from 12 elementary schools in Keelung, New Taipei (including 5 remote schools), Taipei, and Taoyuan were invited to promote access to culture, practicing social responsibility for in the art world.

IV. Internationalization of the curriculum in arts: We began to promote the Internationalized Administrative Support System in 2023. So far, we have organized 57 weeks of Chinese language courses, with 45 participants (foreign students), 24 lectures on international & workplace experiences, with 711 participants, 13 EMI teaching workshops for faculty members, with 173 participants, 13 international cultural and interdisciplinary exchanges, with 1045 participants, as well as international art camps, with 322 participants. Through the strategy of international recruitment and the expansion of cultural exchange, we aim to refine the teaching and learning quality of foreign instructors and students in order to enhance the University's international teaching and research performance.
