Project Highlights 2023-2024

 National Taiwan University (NTU) has established a comprehensive learning framework emphasizing In-depth Learning, Interdisciplinary Innovation, Diverse Exploration, and Self-Directed Learning during the first phase of the Higher Education Sprout Project. In the 2025 THE Rankings for Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, NTU ranked 21st globally, underscoring its outstanding achievements in interdisciplinary education and research.  



The second-phase plan focuses on strengthening interdisciplinary learning systems, expanding opportunities for international and industry engagement, and promoting self-directed learning. NTU continues to prioritize diverse admissions, student counseling, and resource sharing, aiming to cultivate leaders and researchers critical to national development. Below are key highlights from 2023–2024, reflecting NTU's dedication to interdisciplinary learning and educational innovation.



1. Talent Cultivation: With the goal of building six key competencies, NTU supports and guides students in rooting their knowledge, exploring diverse fields, and applying their skills in practice.



(1) Rooting: Strengthened foundational skills with a focus on information technology and digital literacy.




  • ICT and Digital Literacy Focus: 74% of undergraduates completed programming courses by 2024.

  • Introduced the "Navigation into Digital Literacy" course, enrolling 200 students, to prepare them for future challenges.



(2) Exploration: Promoted NTU Specialization Programs (NTUSP) and established University/ College Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s Programs (UIBP/CIBP). 




  • NTU offers 267 Specialization Programs, with over 30% of undergraduates earning certifications; 14.5% of these were achieved outside students’ primary majors.

  • Innovative programs include UIBP with 92 students and one graduate, and 5 CIBP with 57 students enrolled.

  • NTU’s Exploration Credit System recorded over 6,600 applications, and participation in the Active Learning Project and Exploratory Learning Project continues to grow.



(3) Practice: NTU has increased opportunities for students to study abroad and engage in industry internships while fostering an internationalized campus environment. 




  • We sent 1,323 students abroad for exchange programs and internships between 2023–2024.

  • Under the NTU Overseas Internship Program, 68 students interned in 29 institutions across 14 countries, contributing to SDG initiatives.

  • EMI courses increased to 1,905 (13.92% of total offerings).

  • NTU facilitated 476 enrollments in Career Discovery courses and matched 327 students with internships at over 70 companies through NTU Mentorship Program.

  • We also offer 27 Undergraduate Honors Programs with 51 students having received program certificates.



2. Enhancing Teaching and Learning Models:



(1) Curriculum Reform: Launched " The Project on Curriculum and Teaching Reform" to refine core courses and establish NTU Specialization Programs networks. The Project proposed 17 initiatives, involving 13 departments with a 22% participation rate.



(2) Teaching Development: Supported 107 newly hired faculty members through the NTU teaching hub and trained 2,403 TAs to further enhance teaching quality.



(3) Digital Teaching: NTU COOL platform supports over 5,200 courses each semester and introduced AI-generated bilingual subtitles, facilitating blended learning. Established the XR Teaching Center in 2023 and developed 6 VR360 teaching modules and expanded Future Classrooms to 70 by 2024.



(4) Learning Support: The Academic Advising Office (AAO) provided over 1,800 one-on-one consultations between 2023 and 2024 and introduced 16 group guidance sessions in 2024, serving 977 participants. Currently, 54 expert consultants and 837 peer consultants are available to offer guidance, with a student satisfaction rate of 5.39/6, indicating effective student support.



 3. Higher Education Accessibility and Social Responsibility: Enhancing Multiple Admission, Open Resource Sharing, and Sustainable Development Mechanisms.



(1) Multiple admissions channels and Comprehensive Student-support Mechanisms:




  • Increased "Star Plan" admissions to 12.08%, recruiting 424 students in 2024 academic year.

  • Supported 2,165 socioeconomically disadvantaged students, distributing over NTD$14.44 million in scholarships and grants.



(2)  Open Educational Resources : 




  • NTU has actively advanced open educational resources, offering over 3,000 lecture videos (NTU Speech), 289 OpenCourseWare (OCW) courses, and 73 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), collectively attracting millions of global views. 

  • Engaged over 13,000 high school students each semester through the NTU Online Courses High School Promotion Plan, earning the 2023 Open Educational Resource Application Demonstration Award (開放教育資源運用示範獎)

  • Through Summer College, NTU offered 43 Common and General Education courses in 2023, attracting 1,391 enrollments and further supporting diverse learning pathways for students. 



(3) Sustainable Development: 




  • Annually offers 2,500 sustainability-related courses and launched an cross-college ESG Credit Program, fostering Green Collar talents.

  • Since 2023, NTU has included student representatives in the Sustainable Development Promotion Committee, encouraging cross-department collaboration and resource integration to advance sustainability goals.

  • NTU received the 2024 National Sustainable Development Award, highlighting contributions to the environment, society, and talent cultivation.



 4. Promotion of Institutional Research



(1) Enhancing Institutional Research Systems:NTU refined data collection mechanisms and developed a data visualization platform to improve evidence-based decision-making. 



(2) Evaluating New Learning Systems and Models: The university systematically tracks and evaluates the outcomes of its innovative teaching systems. For example, an analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) showed that participation in NTU Specialization Programs (NTUSP) enhances career orientation.



(3) Learning Outcome Analysis: NTU conducts multidimensional analyses of students' learning processes to improve teaching and curriculum design. For instance, The Exploratory Learning Program received a 4.7/5 satisfaction rating, while participants in the Dream Field Comprehensive support Program consistently improved their GPA, reducing the performance gap with peers. This highlights the program's effectiveness in fostering academic success.



5. Internationalized Administrative Support System



(1) Workshops for International Affairs Competencies: NTU periodically organizes training sessions on topics such as international cooperation, cross-cultural communication, and support for international students. Between 2023 and 2024, six such sessions were held.



(2) Increased EMI Courses and Teaching Assistants: The number of EMI courses grew from 1,779 in the 2022 academic year to 1,905  in 2023, while outstanding teaching assistants were recruited to enhance course delivery.
