National Taitung University Project Highlights
Project Highlights 2023

Summary of Goal Achievement and Highlights

National Taitung University (NTTU) continues to build a systematic and goal-oriented learning vision. The four major achievements and highlights are explained as follows:

Goal 1: Cultivating Cross-Disciplinary Self-learning Directed Talent

We have introduced diverse self-directed learning courses. The completion rate has reached 64.62%, and a total of 158 teams participated in the course donation program, linking the core of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The goal achievement rate stands at 94.74%. We have promoted exploratory learning in the first-year micro-projects, integrating social practice elements, which led to 80% of academic departments participating and significant improvements in the six key competencies. We have established cross-disciplinary micro-programs, in line with our positioning as a green international university, increasing the number to 16, alongside three interdisciplinary modules from three colleges. The completion rate has risen to 22%, with 16% of teachers joining cross-disciplinary courses, developing 40 pieces of teaching materials and assessment tools. Additionally, through the teacher innovation teaching database, we have produced 76 lesson plans and teaching materials and 61 instructional outcome videos, enhancing the capacity for innovative teaching. Through innovative teaching plans, 32 MOE teaching practice research programs were passed, and 3 teachers were awarded the honor of outstanding programs. We have also deepened our integrated curriculum with 41 courses, showing significant improvements in post-test scores, which are higher than those of students who did not participate. The number of students participating in internship courses has reached 798, an increase of 10.99%. Moreover, the employment internship program for the entire semester has resulted in a corporate retention rate of 85.18% for students.

Goal 2: Building Taitung as a Green and Culturally Sustainable Area

We continue to offer courses focused on social participation, with a total of 119 courses, achieving a completion rate of 57%. We have promoted the integration of sustainability education into course design, through incorporating experiential learning elements. A total of 198 general education courses have been developed, which include experiential learning, hands-on practice, or case study designs. These courses are connected to the local green production and consumption circular economy value chain. In collaboration with Far Eastern University of Science and Technology (FEU Tech), we organized a Green International University cross-disciplinary learning workshop, resulting in 40 outcomes. Additionally, through skill-building in areas such as "greenhouse gas" and "carbon footprint" inventories, 18 participants earned certifications as carbon auditors and completed "Greenhouse Gas Reports," further deepening our university's green and sustainable practices.

Goal 3: Collaborating on Key Talent Development and Industry Upgrading

We have strengthened connections with local high schools and provided counseling and financial aid to underprivileged students. Students who received the scholarship of Taitung University performed better academically than those who did not receive the grant, with their grades surpassing the general student average.

In terms of local talent development, the number of first-year students registered in Taitung has increased from 5.64% in 2022 to 7.07% in 2023. We have created an entrepreneurial practice ecosystem, combining courses with student participation in both on-campus and off-campus practical projects, as well as in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. A total of 820 student entries participated in these competitions, with 117 winning awards. These efforts resulted in 19 products transitioning to marketable outcomes.

Faculty and students have combined academic research with industry-academic collaboration, producing 52 research projects, 4 R&D products, and 4 cultural and creative brands. In our innovation and entrepreneurship curriculum series, 34 entrepreneurial teams were formed by faculty and students, leading to the establishment of new startups. We also provided guidance on 4 innovative entrepreneurship projects.

In terms of industry-academia integration, we have collaborated with food biotechnology factories to assist micro-enterprises in trial production, testing, and sales. We incorporated ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and carbon inventory consulting to expand the breadth and depth of our services. We matched 43 supplier needs and completed 35 product projects, all of which were adopted by industry partners. These products were launched and underwent technology transfer, generating an additional 6.88 million NT in value. Additionally, these products were trial-marketed at our on-campus store, generating another 1.31 million NT in value.

Goal 4: Enhancing International Mobility

NTTU has worked to create a campus culture and atmosphere that reflects local features while embracing internationalization. Through international exchange platforms, we have connected students with global peers for mutual learning and collaboration, engaging a total of 736 students. We continue to strengthen connections with overseas sister schools, expanding international cooperation to 55 institutions in total. We have also launched a bilateral summer school program to deepen international exchanges in both the field of South Island culture and academia. This included co-organizing the “Taiwan-Guam South Island International Art Exhibition,” where faculty and students produced and displayed 25 pieces of artwork.

Additionally, through a diverse range of online Chinese language teaching platforms, we have trained 65 Chinese language instructors. We have developed 10 sets of Chinese language teaching materials that reflect the unique characteristics of Eastern Taiwan. We also expanded digital and audiovisual teaching resources related to South Island culture, offering 36 new courses on the topic—an increase of 33% compared to the previous period. These efforts continue to build a distinctive, locally grounded international identity for our university.
