Providence University Project Highlights
Annual Achievements: Highlights of Providence University’s 2023 Higher Education Development Plan

I. Advancement in Pedagogical Innovation

A. Driving Participatory Learning and Pedagogical Innovation:
Spearheaded the Participatory Learning and Teaching Practice Research Symposium, themed "Turning the Wheel of Learning: Empowerment through Engagement," to foster discourse on student-driven learning. The symposium assembled interdisciplinary experts to present rigorous research, cultivating a participatory atmosphere in teaching and learning, thereby fostering innovative thinking within the academic community.

B. Creating an Engaging Participatory Learning Environment: United Daily News highlighted the university’s efforts to transform campus spaces into “self-directed learning areas” that facilitate interpersonal engagement. These participatory spaces encourage students to engage in ongoing learning, dialogue, and collaborative discussion, serving as dynamic resources for academic growth.

C. Promoting Participatory International Learning Opportunities: Recognized by Cheers as a “2023 University Guide for Distinctive Learning,” the university has actively encouraged student exchange programs abroad, while establishing a multicultural “mini-global village” on campus. This environment aims to deepen students' global perspectives and enhance international competencies.

II. Commitment to Social Responsibility

A. Elevating Design Thinking Pedagogy: Established an on-campus "Design Thinking and Practice Curriculum Development" faculty community, facilitating monthly professional development workshops. Through collaborative curriculum design, this community cultivates an academic ecosystem that advances the quality of instruction in design thinking.

B. Sustained Volunteer Engagement in Lanyu (Orchid Island): Regularly recruits dedicated student volunteers for the Lanyu Volunteer Team, conducting supply drives and secondhand sales to support the community. Each summer, the team undertakes service initiatives on Lanyu, advancing the “Light Up Project” to enhance the quality of life for elderly residents, instilling students with a deep sense of service and empathy.

III. Industry-Academia Synergy

A. Exemplary Career Counseling: Received the Ministry of Education Youth Development Agency’s sole Gold Award for Career Counseling in 2023, recognized for providing diverse career guidance that cultivates a mutually beneficial ecosystem for students, industry, and the university.

B. Accreditation in International Business Management: The College of Management and International College achieved AACSB accreditation, guided by strategic objectives in “teaching innovation, interdisciplinary learning,” “post-graduation employment,” and “industry-academia collaboration.” These initiatives are dedicated to developing globally competitive business professionals.

IV. Enhancing Higher Education’s Public Value

A. Student Empowerment through Mentorship: Based on a student-centered philosophy, the university has structured a culture of autonomous learning within a supportive environment. Mentors and faculty collaborate with students in setting learning objectives, strengthening mentor-student communication to provide highly effective, individualized guidance.

B. Formation of an Indigenous Empowerment Student Team: Through cultivating skills in project planning, communication, writing, and teamwork, the team supports indigenous students’ academic and personal development. Collaborating with the Service Learning Center, the team organizes experiential camps to fulfill social responsibility, enhancing support structures and growth opportunities for indigenous students, thus fostering an inclusive campus environment.

C. Commitment to University Self-Governance and Transparency: In alignment with institutional development policies, the university rigorously reviews governance processes and promotes transparency by publicly disclosing information. This practice ensures accountability and offers the public a comprehensive resource for reference.
