The Department of Information Management and the Department of Business Administration Team Up to Tackle the ChatGPT Challenge; Martech Micro Program Shapes Digital Economy Leaders



With the rise of ChatGPT, a new era of AI innovation has begun. The Department of Information Management and the Department of Business Administration have established the “Martech Smart Marketing Program.” This initiative adopts a dual-advisory model to foster interdisciplinary learning, equipping students with AI-driven thinking and advanced knowledge in digital marketing and transformation. Open to junior and senior students from different departments, the program combines cross-faculty collaboration and hands-on projects, encouraging students to break free from traditional perspectives. To help students connect with the business world, the program not only offers Capstone courses for hands-on projects but also collaborates with Microsoft to promote certification programs. Additionally, the “Martech Smart Marketing Program” has partnered with major companies like Uni-President and In Sky Hotel. These corporations provide real-world project topics and send professionals to co-mentor students alongside faculty advisors, aiming to nurture practical and industry-ready management talent.

Original Theater with English Dialogue: Tunghai Freshman English Course Promotes Foreign Language Education with Diverse Assessments



Tunghai University’s freshman English course adopts an innovative approach, moving beyond traditional classroom teaching. The course incorporates dialogue practice as an assessment and includes an English drama competition to showcase students’ achievements and offer diverse language learning experiences. Participants must use English throughout, writing scripts, designing dialogues, creating props, and building storylines around a theme. The competition helps enhance students’ speaking, teamwork, and creativity. Many students expressed positive feedback, appreciating the opportunity to boost their motivation and showcase their English skills.

The Department of Japanese Language and Culture at Tunghai University Creates “Japanese Corridor,” Fostering Taiwan-Japan Student Exchanges



To strengthen ties between Taiwanese and Japanese students, Tunghai University has introduced a student-led learning initiative called the “Japanese Corridor.” Organized by Japanese Language and Culture Department students, the program hosts exchange activities during their free time, including both on-campus and off-campus events. Highlights include the “Japanese Festival,” a multicultural exchange event co-organized with students from Tunghai’s Department of Information Management and Department of Business Administration, and grand exchange meetings held with students from Musashino University and Gakushuin University. The Japanese Language and Culture Department noted that the program also integrated interdisciplinary and language courses, encouraging students to explore cultural similarities and differences through these exchanges. By fostering cross-cultural friendships and promoting deeper learning of language and culture, the program aims to create a lasting impact on Taiwan-Japan relations and academic collaboration.

Tunghai University Partners with 10 U.S. Institutions to Launch Mini-Semester for Diverse Learning Experiences



To enhance international education exchanges between Taiwan and the U.S., the International College at Tunghai University collaborated with American universities to create a Mini-Semester immersive learning program. The program offered cross-domain courses on Taiwanese tea culture, cutting-edge AI technology, and blockchain topics, with the addition of unique experiences such as Taiwan’s Indigenous culture and Peking Opera for the first time. This Taiwan-U.S. exchange initiative not only provided an enriching two-way learning platform for students from both sides but also offered participants a rare opportunity to engage in specialized courses taught by U.S. professors and interact with peers from around the world. The program enhanced language skills and broadened participants’ global perspectives.

[Fulfilling Social Responsibility]



Tunghai University Bridges Urban-Rural Gap with Digital Arts and Nature Conservation



To foster creativity and scientific literacy among children in rural areas, Tunghai University hosted the “Generative AI Text Art and Science Exploration” summer camp. This program introduced generative AI tools to create personalized profiles and offered hands-on natural crafting sessions to spark students’ interest in science and art. The camp attracted 55 participants, including Tunghai students and elementary school students from four rural schools in Changhua County. In addition to exploring innovative technologies, the camp featured fun outdoor activities and DIY workshops. Participants visited Tunghai Farmer’s Market, where they made pendants from sweetgum seeds collected on campus. These activities helped children learn about seed ecology while cultivating a love for nature and environmental conservation.

Tunghai University Advances AI in Healthcare: Collaborating with Taichung Veterans General Hospital to Develop an AI Critical Care System and Expand AI Education



Tunghai University is making bold strides into AI healthcare! Tunghai AI Center is working with a medical consulting team from the Taichung Veterans General Hospital to integrate data from across five major hospitals and create a Smart AI Healthcare System for Critically Ill Patients. This system not only assists doctors with diagnoses but also helps reduce patient mortality rates, garnering significant attention from the medical community. Dr. Lo Wen-Tsung, Director of Tunghai AI Center, emphasized the importance of nurturing AI talent during the development of AI technologies. He noted that while Tunghai University does not have a medical school, its successful collaboration with hospitals demonstrates the recognized strength of its AI capabilities. Tunghai University is now working with healthcare institutions to co-train AI professionals, aiming to expand the scope of smart healthcare, break through current limitations, and enhance Taiwan’s medical quality and patient care.

Tunghai Department of Industrial Design Students with “SAMPLE MT. - Taiwan Mountain Snacks,” Winning Top Prize and NT$400,000 at the 2023 Golden Pin Concept Design Award Among Nearly 8,000 Entries



The Golden Pin Design Award, one of the most prestigious honors in the global Chinese-speaking design community, received nearly 8,000 entries from 23 countries this year. Among them, only 25 were recognized with the Best Design Award, and two earned Special Awards. Students Hong Ciao-Yun and Lin Fang-Hsi from the Department of Industrial Design at Tunghai University stood out with their creation, “SAMPLE MT. - Taiwan Mountain Snacks,” taking home the top honor, the Best Design Award, along with a prize of NT$400,000. The project also received international recognition, earning the Red Dot Design Award: Brands & Communication Design and the Ministry of Culture’s Cultural Heritage Creative Award in the Special Category for Craft Design. This achievement has brought pride to Taiwan, showcasing the talents of its next-generation designers.



SAMPLE MT. is an innovative cross-disciplinary design project centered around local souvenirs. Drawing inspiration from Taiwan’s five major mountain ranges, it captures the essence of the land through unique flavors. Each element is transformed into an edible “sample,” inviting consumers to "collect" and savor the breathtaking beauty of Taiwan’s mountains with every bite.

[Enhancing Higher Education Public Engagement]



Tunghai University Promotes Indigenous Education: Faculty and Students Explore Cultural Heritage and Development in Three Atayal Villages in Miaoli’s Tai’an Township



The Center for Student Leadership Development and the Indigenous Stuedents Resource Center at Tunghai University recently led over 60 students on a field study trip to Tai’an Township in Miaoli to explore the cultural heritage and development of Atayal villages in the Beishi cluster. The first stop was the M’buwnan village, where students listened to stories about the village’s reconstruction efforts and the challenges of preserving its cultural heritage. The second stop was the Da’an Village Market, where students sampled local specialties, interacted with vendors about business challenges, and learned about community dynamics. The trip also included a visit to the Suspension Bridge, where students gained insights into Atayal culture and tried their hand at archery. They engaged in discussions about the challenges faced by emerging industries in the villages. This immersive experience provided students with a deeper understanding of Atayal culture, while encouraging reflection on the development and modern challenges of indigenous communities.
