To Realize Teaching Innovation and Elevate Teaching Quality
By establishing the “Guidelines for the Implementation of Interdisciplinary Courses at National Ilan University,” faculty members are encouraged to jointly teach interdisciplinary courses. One hundred and five faculty members offered interdisciplinary courses in 2023, and the number of students who completed interdisciplinary courses totaled 2,120.
NIU provided teaching resources and support on campus and subsidized 41 projects to improve teaching quality. Moreover, 16 inter-university seminars were held at the Eastern Teaching Practice Research Center, with a total of 1,285 participants and a satisfaction rating of 4.83 points. Faculty members were also encouraged to participate in the Teaching Practice Research Program (TPRP). In 2023, a total of 22 applications for the TPRP were submitted and 9 were approved, with an average approval rate of 40.91%.
Industry-Academia Collaboration Linkage
NIU has optimized the integrated project production and internship programs to capitalize on the strengths of the Innovation Incubation Center and to create a platform for the cultivation of cross-disciplinary talents. In 2023, 1,245 students participated in on-campus internships and 262 students participated in off-campus internships.
NIU has engaged in vertical integration of existing organizations and resources related to industry-academia collaboration on campus, and horizontally linked with National Chung Cheng University, National Taiwan Ocean University, and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University to jointly develop the “Scientific Research Industrialization Platform”, promoting the University’s distinctive technologies, and carrying out industry-academia collaboration with government, academia, R&D, and medical institutions, as well as conducting licensing or technology transfer, in addition to corporate services. In 2023, a total of 57 industry-academia collaborations were established, with a contract value of approximately NT$50.11 million.
To Raise Accessibility of Higher Education
NIU has launched the “NIU Grant Get Ready for Flight” fundraising program for economically disadvantaged students. In 2023, each recipient received an average of more than NT$60,000 per year, and their average academic score was 81.31, which was higher than that of the general student population at 74.14.
NIU has been engaged in the promotion of education for indigenous peoples (education for all indigenous peoples). In 2023, a total of 6 activities were organized, with 582 students participating in these activities. A multicultural space has been designated on campus, and ethnic language teaching certification has been incorporated into the curriculum.
To Fulfill Social Responsibility
NIU encourages faculty members in academic departments to offer service-learning courses in general education to enable students to step out of the campus and engage in community services as a way to increase their connections to the local community. Fifty-seven off-campus service activities were held in 2023, with 13 departments and centers participating and 45 off-campus nonprofit organizations partnering with the university, and a total of 1,003 students completed the community engagement courses.
NIU implemented five USR Hub projects in 2023, namely “Green Creation, Sustainable Lanyang-Promoting Ecological and Economic Co-prosperity in Rural Development,” “Tribal Indigenous Industry 2.0: Local Talents Taking Root in Yilan’s Tayal, and Sustainable Development of the Site,” “Shennong’s Happy Life with Organic Food,” “Establishing and Supporting a Rain Garden, a New Type of Ecological Community in Response to Extreme Climate”, and “The First Stop in Kai-Lan, Traveling in Yuziqing”. The total number of student participants was 1,257.
