QS World University Rankings for Sustainability, National Taiwan Normal University ranks third in Taiwan
On October 26, Quacquarelli Symonds announced the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2023, the first rankings focused on social and environmental sustainability performance in higher education institutions. NTNU is ranked 3rd in Taiwan and around 50th globally in Sustainable Institutions and 100th in education influence.
President Wu Cheng Chih says that the resources of the university are given by the community and we should contribute ourselves to the community. In addition to pursuing the sustainable development of school affairs, National Taiwan Normal University also combines the power of the community, government and NGOs to jointly promote global sustainable development. The fruitful results have been recognized by the international community.
QS annually assesses more than 1,300 eligible higher education institutions and this year it released the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2023, for the first time. The ranking is based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) released by the United Nations in 2015, and aims to present the research and education achievements and overall social impact of universities and colleges in the field of social and environmental sustainability, as well as campus space and workplace friendliness (environmental impact). In the above-mentioned indicators, NTNU is ranked 4th and 3rd in Taiwan respectively, and got the first place in Taiwan in Impact of Education.
Taiwan Normal University won the gold medal of STARS
National Taiwan Normal University's achievements in promoting university social responsibility are also concretely demonstrated in the recent participation in the international university sustainability evaluation system established by the American Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). NTNU received the golden medal, same as our sister school Penn State University and it is also the second side in the Asian region. This is a result of the outstanding cooperation between teachers and students in the long-term promotion of sustainable development.
In addition, Commonwealth magazine announced the results of the '2022 World USR University Citizenship' survey in May, with a total of 38 indicators in four major aspects of 'university governance, social participation, environmental sustainability, and teaching commitment', as a way to examine the university's social responsibility and sustainable development. National Taiwan Normal University won the fourth place among public large universities, one place higher than last year.
National Taiwan Normal University won the Energy Conservation Benchmark Award from the Ministry of Economic Affairs
National Taiwan Normal University promotes the sustainable development goals of the United Nations, strives to build a green campus, and gradually implements energy conservation and carbon reduction in campus life. National Taiwan Normal University takes action against climate change to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impact on the climate. Through a regular inventory of electricity consumption or carbon emissions, it is expected to achieve carbon neutrality on campus, 100% use of renewable energy, and the construction of solar photovoltaics by 2050 etc.
According to the statistics of our school, through the above energy-saving measures, 62 metric tons of oil equivalent can be saved, 333 metric tons of carbon dioxide can be reduced, 2.09 million yuan can save energy costs, and electricity can be saved by 653 kilowatt-hours.
