Improving Student’s Learning Environment and Resources
In 2021, the University was awarded key cultivation college of “The Program on Bilingual Education for Students in College” (The BEST Program) of the Ministry of Education. The University has established the Office of Bilingual Education and the Center for Academic Literacy. Each department can hire one EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction)teacher and adjust the EMI courses of each department to at least 18 credits. Graduate schools can provide foreign students with the option of taking courses and earning their degrees under an EMI course structure. In addition, in order to encourage (an environment of) multiple native languages, full-time teachers who teach in languages such as Taiwanese, Hakka, Taiwan Indigenous Languages, Matsu dialect, and Taiwan Sign Language will receive a 50% hourly bonus.
Innovating Digital Teaching
Develop “Online Campus” by transforming featured areas into digital courses and providing technical support and training for synchronous and asynchronous learning at the University. In 2021, a total of 54 digital courses were being offered, and their quality are certified by the Ministry of Education or guaranteed by the University. In response to the pandemic, all courses at the University were changed to distance learning in 2021. Studies show that more than 80% of teachers and students said they could master distance teaching and learning.
Dazzling Performance in Internationalization
In terms of international rankings, Education in NTNU ranked 28th in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021. Furthermore, it ranked among the top 50 in the world for 9 consecutive years and ranked first in domestic university rankings for 10 consecutive years. In terms of recruiting top talents, the Ministry of Education approved the appointment of 2 Yushan Scholars in 2021, in addition to hiring 5 foreign full-time faculty. In terms of international academic influence, 20 faculty were listed in the “2020 Scientific Influence Ranking” of the World’s Top 2% Scientists List, demonstrating the University’s long-term commitment to academic research. Regarding international teacher training, the first bilingual program was launched in 2021, with a total of 101 bilingual teachers being trained. The number of international IB teachers who have completed their studies has reached 96, an increase of 60% compared with 2020.
Cultivating Outstanding Talents in Specialized Fields
In terms of sports, 13 athletes and 4 outstanding coaches from the University were selected to participate in the 32nd. Tokyo Olympics held in 2021. They won 1 silver and 2 bronzes, setting the University’s best results in years past and creating a new milestone for Taiwan. The University has also achieved brilliant results in the National University and College Athletic Games 2021, winning a total of 54 golds, 31 silvers and 45 bronzes. In music and art, students have won a total of 81 international and national awards.
Outstanding Achievements in Research and Development
In 2021, the University published a total of 932 papers in important academic journals (including SSCI / SCI / AHCI / TSSCI / THCI ), and the number of papers with high citation rates in the past ten years increased by 16% compared with 2020. In 2021, the total amount of non-public sector industry-university collaboration programs were about NT$ 147 million, going over NT$ 100 million for three consecutive years and growing year by year.
University Social Responsibility Achievements Recognized
The practical achievements of the University have been widely endorsed, and the team for the “long-term physical and mental health promotion” for the elderly has won the silver award of the first Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards (TSAA) in 2021. In cooperation with the CTBC Anti-Drug Educational Foundation, the University established the CTBC Center for Addiction Prevention and Policy Research, created the Continuing Education Master’s Program of Addiction Prevention, and started official enrollment in November 2021.
