Summary and highlights of the achievement of goals
In the second phase (109-111), with the theme of "Quick Sprout and Perfect Progression ", aims to deepen teacher training, implement curriculum modularization and streaming, and improve professional teachers' qualifications through strategies such as cross-domain learning, innovative curriculum design and teaching, tightening the linkage between researches, studies and industries, cultivating students' core competencies and citizenship, and developing teachers' suitable talents for professionalism and teaching, in order to achieve long-term success. Based on the existing excellent foundation of talent cultivation, we will continue to get rid of the stale and in with the fresh.
According to the aforementioned goals and strategies, the main achievements and five major highlights of the second phase are as follows:
- Highlight 1: Learning value up and professional training.
We established Course Program Centre to integrate programs and encourage students to enhance their interdisciplinary course learning. There were 7 programs and 12 microcredit courses and had been taken by 432 students. (73.5% increase over last year) and 698 students took courses (54.1% increase over last year). In addition, nearly 50% of the students in the university department are studying both their major and education program (1,732 teacher education students), indicating that cross-disciplinary learning has become popular.
- Highlight 2: Students’ practical training and good performance in Recruitment of school teacher.
A total of 156 classroom observation sessions were held, and the overall passing rate of teaching practice certification reached 97.8%. The Center for Bilingual Education and Research was established, and a total of 11 professional courses in bilingual teacher education were offered, supplemented by English camps and English certification enhancement courses in rural areas to strengthen the English learning and teaching abilities of teacher education students. The pass rate for the teacher training program was higher than the national average of 14.5%, and 220 students were accepted as formal teachers and substitute teachers in public and private schools for the 2020 academic year.
- Highlight 3: Commodity development combined with local industry development.
The research and development of specialty products is linked to the USR-HUB program. Two research and development teams, composed of Professor Chienyan Hsieh from the Department of Biotechnology and Associate Professor Chinfei Huang from the Graduate Institute of Science education and Environmental education, used the Tianliao area of Kaohsiung as the promotion site, and in line with the policy direction of the Kaohsiung City Government's Tourism Bureau, combined with the local microbreweries in the Da-Shu District of Kaohsiung to provide technical guidance to their brewing techniques, and focused on highlighting the unique style of the Tianliao area. The main achievement is that we developed two products: “Craft beer, limited brew by Tianliao” and" Craft beer gift pack." Through the product release and media coverage, the products have been distributed and sold in limited quantities at the Tianliao Moon World Tour Customer Service Center, effectively increasing the visibility and marketability of NKNU's creative products.
- Highlight 4: Exporting educational characteristics to new southbound countries.
The project shared teaching materials and teaching aids with Ho Chi Minh City University of Education in Vietnam to assist in the development of educational and administrative professionals for teachers in the new southbound countries. We also signed a cross-country industry-academic partnership with the Federation of Malaysian Chinese School Directors (FMCSD) to assist in the establishment of an advanced system for sports competitions. We also participated in the International School Review - University Performance Metric rating system (UPM) and received the highest rating of 5 stars, accumulating our international influence and visibility. In addition, two classes of the Master of Education Administration and Business Management in Malaysia have been offered, with 39 working graduate students enrolled, and 8 classes of the Diploma in Education in Malaysia have been offered, with 300 students having obtained their diplomas in education and with good results.
- Highlight 5: Providing resources to disadvantaged students and community welfare.
The university will implement priority admissions, adjust admissions thresholds, provide application fee waivers and convenient transportation services, and assist high schools in offering 9 courses (290 electives) and conducts literacy-oriented teaching and assessment and enrichment studies to establish reasonable admission and selection targets. After enrolling in the school, we provide subsidies for academic scholarships, merit exams, professional certification exams, and awards for competitions outside the school to help students study with peace of mind; we also offer study and certification classes to enhance their professional skills and obtain licenses at the same time.
- Highlight 6: Community care and implementation of local practices.
Using "rural" as an element, we use local products and culinary culture to develop cuisine with local seasonal ingredients, combine different humanities and special themes, and revitalize traditional crafts into the aesthetics of life, establishing a cultural and creative industry chain linking Dashu District to provincial highway 29 communities in Qishan District. Through the marketing concept of "Experience Economy", we plan one day culinary trip with culture and sightseeing living sphere, which will lead to the enhancement of the value of the experience economy, the cross-disciplinary innovation of local industry development, and the new vitality of the university and community.
According to the strategies above, we will work harder and plan more featured and organized projects to innovate our school and local society.
