Summary and Highlights of Achievements

With the funding support from the Higher Education Sprout Project (HESP) of Ministry of Education in 2021, China Medical University has successfully completed the Project with the following notable highlights in the four domains:

 

1. Implement Innovative Teaching & Promote the Teaching Quality

(1)CMU I-lab, which collaborates with 7 universities in central Taiwan, hosts 26 workshops and helps 326 students participating in Enterprise and Innovation Competition, has successfully formed 15 innovation teams, created 5 student startup companies, and won 10 National Awards.

(2)CMU promotes teaching quality with digital technology, implements CMU-AU inter-institution online education (8 courses), and establishes 17 Elite Digital Online Courses.   

(3)CMU is ranked the 3rd among universities in Taiwan, and the 1st among private universities in the number of college students who receive the “Ministry of Science and Technology-College Student Research Project” Award.

(4)Students in International Talents Co-Fostering Program and Medical AI Program participate in 2 patents and 7 SCI publications.

(5)The hardware and software of CMU smart campus can support online learning of 5,000 faculty and students simultaneously and greatly promote AI Administration Service System.

2. Develop Key University Features

(1)The number of CMU’s publications in the high impact journals continues to grow. CMU faculty members are ranked in the top 1% of Essential Science Indicators (ESI) in 13 categories and have received many awards including “Excellence in Technology Transfer Award,” “2021 Future Technology Award,” “Ta-You Wu Memorial Award,” and “Ministry of Science and Technology Academic Summit Program Award.”

(2)CMU has received a total of 7 National Innovation Awards in 2021. EverFortune.AI, one of the CMU’s spin-off companies, has become one of the listed companies on the emerging stock market and “Ever Supreme Bio Technology,” another CMU’s spin-off company, has been officially listed on the over-the-counter stock market.

(3)CMU has offered an online English course entitled “Traditional Chinese Medicine: From Basic Theory to Clinical Application,” which has attracted 22 medical students of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, to enroll in this course.  

3. Make Resources of Higher Education Available to the Public

(1)CMU has provided subsidies for economically disadvantaged students up to 2,472 times and helps them improve their academic performance. CMU has assisted 10 students who suffered from a sudden family calamity to receive financial support from the corporations with a total of NT$700,000.

(2)CMU has received four awards from Ministry of Education for the Outstanding University with a friendly campus in central Taiwan. CMU students have been selected as the concierge for the National Day Ceremony for 7 consecutive years and were invited to take a photo with President Ing-Wen Tsai.

(3)CMU Student Volunteer Service Teams of Public Health and Dental Hygience have respectively received the “2021 Outstanding Youth Volunteer Service Team Competition Best Action Award” from Youth Development Administration, Ministry of Education.

(4)CMU collaborated with 5 high schools to offer micro-credit courses to 282 high school students who participated in and had a great experience in Human Anatomy using Anatomage Table, Acupuncture, Tui-Na, Chinese medicine and skin examination courses. 

4. Fulfill University’s Social Responsibilities

(1)CMU has offered 47 courses combining USR and SDGs and 13 SDGs micro-credit courses.

(2)CMU faculty members have published 20 Teaching Practice Projects, College Student Research Projects and research papers in USR.

(3)CMU has won the 2021 TSAA “Excellence in Teaching Sustainability Award,” the Bronze Medal for “SDGs Action Award” in the category of Education and the 3rd place in the Taichung City’s Regional Revitalization Proposal Competition.   

(4)CMU’s Social Return on Investment (SROI) assessment result is 1:3.73, indicating that CMU exerts a significant social impact.

(5) In the prevention of COVID-19 pandemic, CMU is appointed by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health and Welfare to serve as the principal command university and CMU Professor Kao-Pin Hwang serves as the chief commander in central Taiwan.
