Sub-project A Progressing the system of ensuring the quality in teaching

In the Higher Education Deep Plowing Program of Project A, we focus on the enhancement of student learning effectiveness. To achieve the objective, we provide some useful actions to enhance teaching innovation and students’ employability and cross-boundary ability. For teaching innovation enhancement, PBL (Problem-Based Learning) and multiple innovative teaching models are implemented. Teacher groups are organized for valuable teaching experience discussion and sharing. For students’ employability and cross-boundary ability improvement, we provide forward-looking practical programs and invite practical professional teachers for collaborative teaching. We also provide practical corporate visits. In addition, professional licenses regarding computer software application technician, global English testing, teaching knowledge test (TKT), and big data fundamentals are provided. To assure the construction of students’ core ability and employability ability, an Assurance of Leaning system has been developed to present students’ core abilities graphically. In the system, we can check their core abilities on courses, representative jobs, licenses, and national exams. Learning portfolio including international exchange and essential extracurricular activities are also provided for multi-dimensional development. In project A, we enhance students' learning motivation and willingness, so as to assure students' learning effectiveness and build great learning habit.

 

Sub-project B Progressive enhancing the Internet-based learning system

In 2021 we support teachers by setting up a digital audio-visual recording room, optimizing peripheral facilities for teaching aids, and assisting teachers in recording and editing relevant teaching videos. There are 17 courses getting subsidy for the production of digital teaching materials. We establishe Easy Test and Japanese language proficiency test training materials to improve students' ability to pass the English and Japanese test. The Zuvio teacher-student interaction system enhances students' concentration on digital courses and allows teachers to master the effectiveness of student learning.

 

Sub-project C Strengthen the function of tutors and improve students' basic literacy ability

1. Promote the dual tutor system for freshmen and sophomore classes to give students more comprehensive care.

2. Promote the use of the new version of the alumni questionnaire survey system and encourage all colleges and departments to strengthen alumni links.

 

 

Sub-Project D Management and Development of Internship to Promote the Employability of Students

D-1 Build and Maintain the System of Internship

In 2021, like in 2020, due to the COVID-19 epidemic, there were still no students went abroad for interns. As to local interns, there were 106 students who have been visited by teachers in charge. According to the Likert Scale questionnaires from local interns, the extent of satisfaction reached 100%.

D-2 Evaluation the Performance of InternshipThe percentage of students who have done an internship in 2021 were 40%, which achieved the goal. Besides, there were 21 sessions for internship explanation, committee and result presentations in the same year.

 

Sub-project E Progressing the institution of starting a business

In order to enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem of KNU, the “Startup Base” was established in March 2018 as a platform for incubating and accelerating entrepreneurship of faculties and students in KNU. We provide related facilities and space at Startup Base, such as 3D printers, showcases, booths, maker space, and creative bazaars, etc., supplemented by counseling and incubating services for all startup teams.

    In 2021, our Startup Base continued counseling a startup team that asked for tutoring since 2020 to verify the feasibility of coffee subscription model at KNU, and our faculty also provided the individual entrepreneurial guidance to 2 undergraduates, one is establishing a skincare brand, the other is operating a Instagram KOL account for her pet. Meanwhile, we also hosted 5 creative bazaars for facilities and students to have more opportunities for publicity and expose their crafts and ideas, and 7 entrepreneur forums for students to get more external practical experiences and trends from the successful entrepreneur. Even during this tough pandemic, we still attracted 591 people (growth rate is 37.76%) to participate our activities.

    In 2021, in order to further strengthen the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills for KNU students, and integrate the teaching resources of entrepreneurship at KUN, we hosted 8 related courses (the average teaching evaluation reached 4.75 and the responded rate was 85.71%). The number of students taking courses increased from 275 in 2020 to 306 in 2021 (growth rate is 11.27%) We also invited 4 industrial experts to conduct 51 hours of collaborative teaching to share the relevant entrepreneurial experiences to our students.

    In addition to the integration of resources within KNU, we also tried to link external entrepreneurial resources actively. We invited 6 entrepreneurs and 1 expert having talks at our Startup Base to help our students realize more practical experiences of running a business and stimulate their entrepreneurial ideas. The average of the satisfaction survey of these talks is 4.71 and the responded rate was 85.71%. Feedbacks from participants have been positive, as they were eager to have more discussions with our speakers after talks.

    In 2021, we also held two national startup competitions in May and November. But different from past, we cooperated with Taoyuan Start-Up Hub in May that the participant teams could receive the guidance from Start-Up Hub’s consultants/experts and the top three finalists would have the chance to apply its incubator space. Compared with the reduction due to the pandemic in 2020, there were 33 teams in participated this year with a growth rate of 230%. By cooperating with external institutions and associations, we hope to provide more entrepreneurship thoughts and resources to our faculty and students and to accelerate the growth of our startup teams.

 

Sub-Project F Develop the Smart Campus and Optimize the Infrastructure

The courses about network security, which included Information Security,Cloud Platform and Automatic Technology etc., have been offered in 2021.

 

Sub-Project G Promote the Public Raise of Teaching, Stay on the Top of Interaction and Transaction of Japan

In 2021, our school’s interaction with other countries was mainly changed to online interaction. We held 5 online activities between our students and Japanese sister school students. Also, in order to strengthen the services for overseas students in our school, a total of 16 international student activities were organized. In the aspect of improving Chinese proficiency of our foreign students, for the first time we opened a summer Chinese intensive class and produced 40-hour Chinese language teaching material video to enhance the adaptability of foreign students living in Taiwan and to increase the effectiveness of learning in our school. Furthermore, for the first time we helped the International Student Association, the Japanese Student Association and the Overseas Chinese Student Association organize several international student activities, including St. Patrick’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas and Japanese New Year, so that Taiwanese students in our school could experience different foreign cultures. It is worth mentioning that Thanksgiving and Christmas activities were jointly held by the International Student Association and the Kainan Student Association. Even though with the influence of the epidemic, Kainan students still had the opportunity to learn about foreign cultures and foreign languages on campus, and the number of benefited students was far greater than that of studying abroad.

 

Sub-project H Developing the characteristics of learning to use

2021 Conference on Globalization and Administrative Governance was suppoorted to carry out. Many lectures and sessions were held, including  professional lectur for English Tour: Free Walking Tour, seminar for interdisciplinary learning and practice in tourism & restaurant after pandemic, lecture for cultural creation in Japan & Korea etc. With the professional course of Film Studies Department, a case for Learning to use was implemented.

 

Sub-Project I Strengthen the Institution Research and the Administrative Efficiency of Projects

In 2021, 3 cases for institution research have been carried out. On the 23 November 2021, the professor Fu, Yuan-Chin of NTUT who is expert in the area of institution research was invited to give a lecture, sharing how to process a kind of case of institution research.

There were specialized hardwares and equipments in specialized classrooms have been supported. The questionnaires that are presented as Likert Scale and will be collected from the students of relative specialized courses in 2022.

 

Sub-Project L Bilingual teaching and learning

To improve the biligual teaching, the Certificate in EMI Skills Online Course was introduced among teachers. As to the biligual learning, a test process was set up, in order to find out if the improvement of students’ english level can be presented.

 

Sub-Project USR-HUB

In 2021, there were totally five USR-HUB Plans been implemented.

USR-HUB-A Promote the Culture of Yaochi jinmu in Taoyuan

The cultural festival of Yaochi jinmu in Kaohsiung was coonected with that in Taoyuan, which was taken place on 6th & 7th of November. There were students of KNU who participated in this cultural event to learn how to organize the production and broadcasting for a local cultural activity.

 

USR-HUB-B Film and Television Practice for Teens: Local Connection With New Resident in Taoyuan

In 2021, there were two kinds of camp have been held, one is film creation camp and the other is reporter camp. Both were mainly for the senior high school students and focused on the issue of the cultural difference between new and local resident. The cultural practice courses provided an opportunity for primary school students not only to interact with college students from various Asian countries, but also to broaden their international horizons and enhance their cross-cultural knowledge. Some of the primary school students from new resident family are lagging behind in academic performance. Seeing college students from their mother’s home country, they feel new and encouaged.

 

USR-HUB-C The Experience Design for Green Agriculture and Leisure: Implement the Local Sustainable Development

Continue to set up a group to work “Study Tour Center of Green Experience”. One presentation was held to show the result. In addition, there were sessions and workshops taken place to promote the idea of food and agriculture education.

 

USR-HUB-D Construct the Continuous Cycle and Cross-Domain Leisure Resource in Dayuan District

In 2021, three kinds of report was completed. They are the basic investigation about the leisure resources, the plan of environmental education in local neighborhood,  and the analysis of public transport and lines. The aim is to research the possibility to provide a more friendly environment for the neighborhood aroung KNU.

 

USR-HUB-E Baseball Training Plan for the Elementary and Secondary School in Taoyuan

The famous baseball team of KNU university helped the students of 3 elementary and secondary schools to improve the baseball skills and to motivate the atmosphere of local baseball sport, which is the key sport item of Taoyuan.
