Highlights of 2021 Higher Education Sprout Project
SHU’s education characteristics in “communication courses as the core and threading curricula among various departments”, “integrating theory with practice” and “industry-academia cooperation for interdisciplinary innovation” will be continued during the years of the Higher Education Sprout Project, at the same time together with the targets of Medium Term Development Plan: “excellent teaching”, “high quality research”, “citizenship with global perspectives” and “sustainable campus”. The university has executed 2021 Higher Education Sprout Project to meet 4 goals, 17 strategies. The project highlights are summarized below:
- Innovative curriculum reform
(1) Optimizing the course “Omni Media Literacy” content to focus on the current development and future perspectives of related industries and students' reflective learning.
(2) Optimizing courses in “Computational Thinking and Programming” for logical thinking and problem solving.
(3) Research and development in innovative teaching material for 48 courses (52 teachers), and improving teaching capacity by exchange of experience in 21 professional learning communities.
(4) Executing 16 “Industry-Academia Cooperation Courses” connected with trends in industrial development, and establishing cooperation with Farglory Life and Eastern Media International Corporation.
- Multi-learning, accumulation of practical experience and learning outcomes
(1) Executing English proficiency simulated test for the freshmen, and creating the foreign language learning environment within English and Japanese corner.
(2) Awards for students’ participation (134 teams) in international, national and regional competitions, performances or charitable activities.
(3) Holding 11 and co-organizing 1 international online conferences and during COVID-19 Pandemic.
(4) Integrating specialized courses to train popular music talents by strengthening the creative energies from “Popular Music R & D Center”.
(5) Cross-disciplinary producing 18 Podcasts with the cooperation of 9 radio stations and 3 Podcast platforms.
(6) Holding the “2nd Annual Taiwan Canned Product Innovation Competition” with Taiwan Canners Association.
- Developmentof interdisciplinary learning based on digital communication and data Intelligence
(1) Producing and scheduling the youth forum programs for the interdisciplinary cooperation, and cultivating omnimedia talents as target by live broadcast projects and sports events.
(2) The new LED Virtual Studio will be dedicated to 13 innovative hands-on courses, e.g., “Motion capture editing techniques” and “Creative three-dimensional design”.
(3) Executing the project 5G augmented reality game “Asyra”, holding the “Azure AI workshop” and discussing the issues about “Public affairs and operation in communities” by using the resources of 6 Teaching and Research Centers.
- Development of effective learning and teaching environments with completed learning guidance program
(1) Promoting the education and financial aid and improving the mechanism of guidance.
(2) Establishing “LED Virtual Studio”, and equipment augmentation of “Omni Media Center”, “8K Cinema”, “Cloud Digital Learning Center”, “Shih Hsin Radio Station” and “6 Teaching and Research Centers” for the development of media production and smart data.
- Entering local campus of secondary education, and developing the community collaborative partnership
(1) Promoting specialized courses about speech communication, filmmaking as empowerment, computer programming, humanities and social sciences, English oral expression and law-related education to share the learning achievements in local campus of secondary education.
(2) Helping to develop image of communities around the university and local industries by newsgathering in communities, local social media management, elderly concern, video capture recording and digital map.
(3) Joining the USR union of the greater Wenshan area for resource sharing and regional revitalization.
