  • Cross-discipline program: Since 2018, NYCU has provided 53 cross-discipline programs among 34 departments to encourage students to hold the second major. So far, there have been 123 students completing the second major requirement.
  • Cross-discipline perspective: In 2021, NYCU-ICT has offered 74 cross-discipline courses containing innovative creative technology (ICT) to enrich students’ global perspectives. 1,494 students have participated in the courses and 400 students have attended the cross-discipline workshops.
  • Improving academic research capacity: NYCU was ranked the top 1% in 14 fields among 22 fields of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database. 21 articles from the university were published in Science and Nature. In addition, 20 articles were listed as “highly-cited” papers in 2021.
  • Recruitment of scholar excellence (outstanding scholars): To recruit outstanding scholars, NYCU adopts the policy of bonus payment to recruit talented individuals in the world. So far, there are more than 20 % of the newly recruited faculty gaining the bonus payment through the policy. In 2021, NYCU has recruited 29 Yushan Fellows including 4 Yushan Young Fellows: Dr. Wei-chien Yuan from Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Li-Chia Tai from the Berkeley Sensor and Actuator Center, Dr. Ming-Lun Tseng from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, and Dr. Yu-Sheng Su from the Global Graphene Group.
  • Cultivating global talents and empowering students’ global mobility: In 2021, NYCU has 1,765 international students that are 8% of the total students. Those international students mainly come from NYCU’s 350 global partner universities. Up to 288 graduate students have completed their dual-degree programs. Their thesis is co-supervised both by faculty of NYCU and global dual-degree partner university. NYCU has been striving for cultivating a positive internationalized university to archive goals as follows:
    -to engage our campuses in the community of global higher education,
    -to recruit global talents studying in NYCU,
    -to help NYCU’s students promote their cross-cultural communication skills and enrich their global perspective, and 
    -to retain competitive international graduates working in Taiwanese private sectors.
  • Strengthening academic-industrial R&D collaboration: NYCU’s office of the R&D affair has provided well-considered measures to assist researchers in transforming their R&D outcomes into startup companies. The measures include IP issues, technology transferring, academics-to-industry collaboration, and spin-out consultation for the startup company. In 2021, five startup companies are spinning out from NYCU’s office of R&D affairs. Moreover, six professors’ R&D technologies have been successfully transferred into the industry, the amount of every case is more than 5 million NTD. Moreover, Global View Monthly ranked NYCU number 1 in academic-industrial collaboration among Taiwan’s universities. In the review, the close tie of the collaboration in areas of medicine and engineering is highly promising in the future research and innovation of Taiwan.
  • Financial aids for students from the disadvantaged social and cultural status: Financial aids for students from disadvantaged social and cultural status is always NYCU’s commitment to the community. NYCU strives for fundraising to support needy students. In 2021, NYCU has offered scholarships for 4536 individuals. Additionally, NYCU also has a humanity policy in providing financial support for students who experience family emergencies.
  • NYCU is committed to social development and community sustainability. An office of university social responsibility (OUSR) was established to support teachers and students to solve community problems. OUSR’s policy encourages students with competencies and passions to dedicate themselves to community activities, volunteer practice, and problem-solving tasks.
