National Taiwan University of Arts 2021 Sprout Project Highlights

Orientation: Implementing teaching innovations and enhancing teaching quality

Project Goal: Set up the lecture of innovation and entrepreneurship to ensure and improve the learning effectiveness of students

Summary:

After graduation, one third of students decide entrepreneurship as his or her career choice. It is one of our major concerns to aid students prepare himself or herself for entrepreneurship. Not only encouraging and guiding the setting up creative studios by the students, we but enforce the collaboration between the enterprise and academic area. Instructors and industrial experts simultaneously provide 3C innovation course such as legal studies, financial management, and branding strategy and. Students will learn how to be an entrepreneur in school and pursue their business dreams.

Highlights:

We support fourteen teams and create sixteen courses of three innovation (creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship) in 2021 to integrate resources internally and externally. We strengthen the business counseling and branding service in the university, thereby establishing campus innovation and entrepreneurship fostering ecosystems. There are thirty-five works and one exhibition on display at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. After knowing the market trend, more teams will receive subsidies from National Culture and Arts Foundation, Treasure Hill Artist Village, and Taipei Film Festival.

Orientation: Development of School Characteristics

Project Goal: The central Idea of the center

Summary:

From Higher Education Sprout Project 2020 to 2022, we combine the studies and practices of art, foster energies amongst diverse communities, integrate internal ans external resources and incubate research and educational centers of technology, foresight, and art. We establish Historical Object Conservation Research Center, Innovation Center for Are and Technology, and Center for Sound Art and Acoustics Research in 2021 and arrange for Research and Teaching Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage and Center for Physical Arts Experimentation. We aim to combine the studies and practices in various fields and set up the engine of development in the following decades.

Highlights:

  1. Cross-Disciplinary Program
    We provide nineteen creative interdisciplinary courses at centers of our school and six lectures at preparational center. Twenty-seven Students who take courses set up by Historical Object Conservation Research Center get licenses for conservation of historical and artistic work. Students in Center for Sound Art and Acoustics Research have the opportunities of industry-university cooperation. Moreover, students learned Center for Physical Arts Experimentation get subsidies of National Culture and Arts Foundation.

  2.  Research in Art
    In 2021, there is a main focus on conservation research, conservational and development of material for traditional buildings conservation, and scientific analysis of utilization of programming language. We recruit students who are interested in architecture art conservation, project executives with extensive experience, and professionals with related background to stably generate reports with small budget. Though the process, we have a firm base of larger scale of research proposals or industry-university cooperation for the future.

  3. Industry-university cooperation
    We broad the opportunities of interdisciplinary collaboration thus there is an 86% of increase in industrial-academical cooperation in 2021.

Orientation: Develop the characteristics of school

Project Goal: Setting of Taiwan Art Thinktank

Summary:

NTUA establishes the Think Tank for Taiwan Cultural Policy (TTTCP) in 2016 to gather the cultural policy academic research and practical application of our school consultants, teachers, researchers, and students, to construct a new knowledge system of art and culture and regularly hold interdisciplinary policy forum and academic lecture to increase the Influence and visibility of public opinion of our school, to promote the art and culture think tank network between Taiwan and the world. Intensify Taiwan's international exchange with others and prestige and to plan and publish related research reports, books, theses, periodicals and e-papers. In summary, NTUA will play a role to enhance teacher-student relationships, strengthen the capability, and to strive for more research energy.

Highlights:

  1. The art project rewards students for participating academic research and exhibition activities. In 2021, sixteen award-winning students have great performances. There are also results such as one book publish, three thesis, three seminars, six short films, one installation artwork, three series of craft art, three public performances, seven exhibitions, and one trial class. All pieces are successfully exhibited domestically and abroad because of funding. With the support of grants and subsidies, students were encouraged to complete projects, win awards, and get invited to public performance. Research of Tony Oursler’s Artworks Moved the Backstage forward: A case study of LOCK by Jing-Hua, Lee was selected and published in Master Lectures and Young Scholars Forum on Taiwanese Art. History of Navigation: Luanda, Kochi, and Jakarta by Margot Guillemot was invited and displayed in Bilik Nasional Taiwan at 2021 Biennale Jogja, Pan-Austro-Nesian Arts Festival 2021, and the 3rd Asian Curatorial Forum. Presence in Absence: Statement of Creation of Enamel Jewelry by HUNG,TZU-CHUN was archived and produced by Pan Wen Yuan Foundation. Artwork by HSIEH,CHIA-WEN was shortlisted by Taitung Craft Design Award. When the wind rises filmed by Hung Chen had assistance and subsidies by The Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development (BAMID) and will be displayed at 2022 Golden Harvest Award. The Students received awards keep hardworking internally and externally in order to have more extensive contents.  
  2. Taiwan Association of Cultural Policy Studies (TACPS) inaugurate six professional groups and hold twenty-five activities such as lectures, workshops, forums and seminars across a wide range of disciplines. The mission and vision for TACPS is to gather the cultural policy academic research and practical application, to construct a new knowledge system of art and culture and regularly hold interdisciplinary policy forum and academic lecture to increase the Influence and visibility of public opinion of our school, to promote the art and culture think tank network between Taiwan and the world. Furthermore, TACPS anticipates to intensify Taiwan's international exchange and to strive for getting the research or advisory services cases commissioned by Taiwan art and culture departments.

Project Goal: Greater Taipei Arts Festival

Summary:

Cultural governance is the key policy of developed countries and cultural institution establishment is the key index of city development. Thus, NTUA built the Performing Arts Center, completed the project management of theater, provided qualified content of performance, and aimed to be a new local landmark for international arts. Furthermore, the Art Festival held by NTUA has been one of the characteristics of Banqiao District.

Highlights

 

  1. Greater Taipei Biennial of Contemporary Arts
    Arts are displayed interdisciplinary including contemporary art, technology, theater, photography, and films as the theme of “Polyphony Myth”. Twenty-five Artists in total are gathering internationally from Taiwan, Korea, United States, Germany, and France. The classic work and site-specific creation project reflect the various concepts of “Polyphony Myth”. By integrating and transforming spaces in campuses, NTUA Art Village and 9 Art Space are set up for demonstration. NTUA Art Village, a part of the “campus”, is surrounded by walls of the National Overseas Chinese Experimental Senior High School’s faculty dormitory and fuse the feeling of housing. Not like the experience in museums, visitors get into these old residences as if they were taking a house tour, their visiting is not only a temporary gathering of various public and private relationships but also a series of household activities that belong to, but are not limited to, the field of visual art. Besides exhibitions, NTUA holds lectures, guides, and workshops that gathers 2534 participants and collaborates with Academia Sinica, BENQ, and other nine organazations.
  2. Da Guan International Performing Arts FestivalSix shows, thirteen performances and eight extended activities are held in the festival. Since 19th December, there are three hundred and thirty-six people take the internship, four hundred and ninety participate in art promotion, and two thousand nine hundred and seventeen views. Due to the serious Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic nowadays, international performance art people cannot visit Taiwan. We reschedule the content of programs to show the abundant power of creation. The project “Epitome of Time” Repetition exhibit the ability in disciplinarity. “The Dream of the Red Chamber Suite” is the collaboration between the department of Chinese music and Taipei Philharmonic Chorus. “Cross-field Artistic Imaginary 2.0” is made by College of Performing Arts, NTUA. These performances and events receive critical acclaim domestically.
Historical Sites of Injustice – Ankang Reception House and Xindian Military Prison made by by Chao-Liang Shen is an outdoor photographic installation. Images and videos are themed with the ponderous wheel of history and demonstrated in the area that correspond to the structures of jail remains.Model House Project made by Ching-Yuan Hsu is displayed at an under constructed area in the Art Village. Hsu has a background of architecture and he deliberately combine his work and venue to display the correspondence.
