Innovative Teaching Methods

  • Tutorial services, which have helped 352 students, are provided by 91 teaching assistants to help students studying academic subjects as well as professional courses.
  • Courses under industry-academia collaboration and the dual teacher system are designed for students to better understand industry trends. There are now 68 subsidized courses with 59 teachers.
  • English classes of different levels, featuring sport topics and small class size teaching, are provided, along with online exchange communities for sport English courses and English learning, respectively.
  • A picture composition contest (28 entries received) and a freshman writing contest (605 entries received) were held to enhance students’ composition, narration and expression skills.
  • Five interdisciplinary programs are offered to lower the compulsory departmental credit requirement and increase students’ flexibility in course selection. Makerspaces are also available for students to acquire practical experience.

Development of School Characteristics

  • An English-friendly environment is created by increasing English-taught courses and basic Chinese language courses to strengthen students’ language abilities and boost international exchanges.
  • Professional exercise testing and sports instructions are provided for members of the university teams and students from high schools in the vicinity.
  • A baseball lab and a wearable testing team are established; databases of sport players and senior citizens are created; and a cloud monitoring and testing app is developed.
  • A video Makerspace is established, including 177 campus videos and interviews, 4 athlete interviews and 12 weekly live sports news reports.
  • In terms of sports tourism, two cyclocross events are held.
  • A data collection and study group is formed to teach students how to collect and interpret the test data on players and statistics from competitions.
  • A television station for interns, where 30 video programs and interview films of extraordinary athletes and coaches were already produced, is built for students to improve their practical abilities.

Increased Publicity of Higher Education

  • Multiple channels of admission and exam subsidies are continued to be provided for economically or culturally disadvantaged students. Various guidance services are also available to inspire students’ learning motivations and improve their learning effects.
  • Funds were raised from alumni and enterprises to help and guide underprivileged students. So far, a total of 312 students have already benefited from the scholarship.
  • A platform for disclosure of the university’s financial information has been established.

Fulfill Social Responsibility

  • We made Taichung a city of sports by combining the sport industries, study programs and Makerspaces, in an effort to fulfill our social responsibility and create employment opportunities. So far, over 3000 people have participated in related sport events.
  • LOHAS lectures and health-related physical fitness courses are added, in which 3998 people have participated, to provide senior citizens opportunities for lifelong learning and exercising.
  • Local citizens are invited to performances in our theatre. Training of different stages are also offered to the underprivileged and dementia patients.
  • Various sports lessons and seminars are provided to senior citizens to covey the concept of LOHAS and help them to engage in lifelong learning and healthful exercise.
