2020 Achievement Summary and Highlights
Our University adopts CDIO + Design Thinking project-based learning innovative teaching approach throughout professional and general education to cultivate T-shaped talents with solid foundations and innovative practical abilities. We also cultivate π-type talents with interdisciplinary and multiple expertise by our professional colleges, General Education Center, and inter-college organizations. The i.School provides students with innovative tools, application capabilities and practical fields. The d.School and the s.School provide projects related to industry and society, and train students to become ㄤ-shaped innovative talents required for the industrial upgrading and transformation.
Introduction of CDIO and Design Thinking learning system to emphasize "learning by doing". Each department systematically cultivates students' creative thinking, integrated knowledge, hands-on implementations, and capabilities to solve complex problems from freshman project + anchor course, deep bowl projects to cross-semester graduation projects. Some outstanding student competition performances are listed below:
- Tsu-Wang Shen, Head of the Department of Automatic Control Engineering, led the students to participate in the "2020 National Colleges and Universities Smart Innovation and Cross-domain Integration Creation Competition" and won three awards, including the "Extract Workshop" team won second place in the Somatosensory Interactive Technology Group, the "Smart Classroom AIoT" team won the third place in the Internet of Things group, and the "Seeing Wood Waiting" team won the Cross-domain Integration Award in the Digital Sustainable Technology Group.
- Students from the Department of Transportation and Logistics participated in the finals of the "2020 Public Transport Planning Competition on Highways" on November 19. "Ding Dong~ Please don't pass my heart" and "Happy village walks, the best way to visit the manor" teams stood out from the 63 teams and won first and second place in the student group, winning $300,000 and $150,000 prizes.
Through the integration of resources in the local innovation centers and industry-academia alliances to work with the government, industry, and communities to lead students to implement industry and social projects to achieve University Social Responsibility.
- CommonWealth Magazine "CW USR University Citizen Selection" examines the social responsibility of universities. Feng Chia University's survey results in 2020 ranked first among private universities due to our "student-oriented, teaching-oriented" performance.
Provide students with innovation and entrepreneurship learning experience and practical opportunities, integrate our Inno Maker community, entrepreneurship accelerator and incubation center to construct a complete innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem to enable students to have entrepreneurial capabilities and encourage teams to participate in competitions.
- In the 2020 academic year, a total of 4 teams were recognized by the Ministry of Education's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program, including the "MS Mold Creation-Light Curing Clay" and "Chengbao-Program Education" teams with U-start Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program awards, and another two teams, "Small Hill" and "SEOUL AREA" with awards in the SOS-IPO, for a cumulative total prize of $1.65 million.
Construct a flexible and innovative academic system with multiple learning channels to add students' values. In the first semester of the 2020 academic year, students were able to apply for multi-disciplinary courses to explore themselves and develop their learning enthusiasm. In 2020, a total of 89 students applied for these courses.
Strengthen the university's post-graduate education, analyze the development of domestic and foreign research institutes and industry trends. In the 2020 academic year, the Office of Graduate Student Affairs was established to plan courses according to the needs of the industry and assist in the integration of resources to promote the quality and value of post-graduate education.
The board of directors, along with other funding agencies, devote resources to improve the university’s environment to enhance teaching quality and to optimize the fields of learning innovation so that the teaching and learning atmosphere is changed to demonstrate the spirit of sharing. In 2020, the Innovative Education Hub was completed, and teaching spaces such as the educational field of smart acoustics and life aesthetics, the perception experiment space, and the hall of the innovative environment smart city shared learning were transformed.
