Summary and Highlights of Achievements
With the funding support from the Higher Education Sprout Project (HESP) of Ministry of Education, China Medical University has successfully completed the Project with the following notable highlights in the four domains:
1.Implement Innovative Teaching & Promote the Teaching Quality
(1)CMU invests enormously to develop and promote digital education, such as the set-up of smart campus, smart classrooms, smart material resources, and cloud learning centers.
(2)CMU is the first in developing the “Smart Competency Assessment APP: mini-CEX.tw.entrust” that allows clinical instructors to provide the constructive feedback to the learners to improve their clinical skills in Taiwan. In 2020, 251 clinical instructors have conducted clinical learning evaluations for 426 clerks.
(3)In 2020, 137 CMU college students have received the “Ministry of Science and Technology-College Student Research Project” Award, which is ranked the 3rd among universities in Taiwan, and the 1st among private universities, showing that CMU students are active and fruitful in interdisciplinary learning and research.
(4)In the 2020 academic year, the registration rate of CMU undergraduate program has reached 96.14%. CMU students are ranked the top 3 in the pass rate of the national license exams for pharmacists, nutritionists, and nurses.
(5)In 2020, CMU, Feng Chia University and Asia University have co-hosted Hackathon Competition in sustainability, intelligence and creativity by inviting 10 enterprises to participate in providing test questions. Seventy-two student teams from 16 universities have taken part in this competition, demonstrating their interdisciplinary learning.
2.Develop Key University Features
(1)The numbers of national grants, special research projects, and paper publications in the high impact journals all exceed the setting goals. In 2020, CMU faculty members have received many awards including “Excellence in Technology Transfer Award,” “Seeding Project Award,” “Outstanding Research Award,” and “Excellent Medicine Technology Award.”
(2)In 2020, CMU has received a total of 11 National Innovation Award, and got the government funding for 3 interdisciplinary-industry integration development projects.
(3)In 2019-2020, CMU and National University of Singapore have co-funded 7 cooperation projects to facilitate the top-notch research.
3.Make Resources of Higher Education Available to the Public
(1)CMU implements the Quantum Leap in Learning Project and Public Service Project to cultivate students’ diverse learning ability. CMU Chinese medicine student Wan-Ru Pan won the “2020 President Education Award” with her enthusiastic participation in volunteer service in rural areas. CMU is the only university recognized as the “University of Character Education” by Ministry of Education in central Taiwan in 2020.
(2)In 2020, CMU has provided subsidies for economically or culturally disadvantaged students up to 2,288 times, and has assisted the underprivileged in the community up to 9,809 times.
(3)CMU shares resources with local communities. CMU has formed a close alliance with 8 high schools, with a total of 220 high school students participating in project-based learning. The Lifu Museum of Chinese Medicine also provides an open learning environment for the public.
4.Fulfill University’s Social Responsibilities
(1)CMU has proposed 23 projects according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. In 2020, CMU has received many awards including “University Social Responsibility Sustainable Development- Bronze Award” by Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), “National Sustainable Development Awards-No.1 in the Category of Education” by Executive Yuan, and the 3rd place in “2020 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings- Good Health and Well-being.”
(2)CMU has offered 13 micro-credit courses of sustainable development, and has completed 9 long-term care online teaching materials, 6 addiction prevention lectures, sport injury prevention counseling for 12 elementary and junior high schools, and nearly 30 career counseling lectures for 8 senior high schools. In addition, CMU has collaborated with 38 cross-industry alliance companies which provide CMU students with the internship opportunity. CMU also establishes an online food and drug safety counseling platform.
(3)In the prevention of COVID-19 pandemic, CMU and CMUH have been appointed by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health and Welfare to serve as the principal command university and the commander in chief in central Taiwan, fulfilling the university social responsibility during the global public health crisis.
