I. Teaching innovation and quality improvement

  1. An institutional research system was established to improve university administration and teaching quality. Five projects on student recruitment and enrollment rate analysis and 13 research projects that involved the voluntary participation of teachers were completed. Nine experience exchange and sharing events were hosted.
  2. To enhance teachers’ professionalism and help them acquire diverse knowledge, grants were provided to 15 communities that focus on the interdisciplinary professional growth of teachers. In addition, 34 experts from the university and other organizations were invited to discuss relevant practice.
  3. Amenities and innovative learning environments in the university were optimized, and the construction of a cloud digital learning center was completed.
  4. The university helped students develop reading habits and foster fundamental writing ability. The Golden Voice General Literature Education bimonthly periodic was founded, and 4 issues of the periodic have been published. An essay and photography competition called “Wind Lion God and Me” was organized.
  5. To enhance students’ diverse knowledge and improve their employability and competitiveness, 165 lectures with speakers from the industrial, government, and academic sectors were provided.
  6. To promote sustainable development in line with the characteristics of Kinmen, 31 courses were designed to discuss the geography, culture, and development characteristics of the island.

II. University development

  1. The university hosted marine lectures and alumnus symposia and organized visits and internship projects to the Coast Guard Administration and Customs Administration.
  2. The university formed a strategic alliance with sister schools and institutes to promote the New Southbound Policy. It also collaborated with Brill to publish an English journal, which has been archived by ERIH Plus and Scopus. In addition, a course was offered to Seminar on Overseas Chinese and Their Hometown.
  3. To provide technical services for research and development activities in the local food industry and improve technology for cultural heritage preservation and surveying, the university offered one interdisciplinary course on Alcohol Beverage Brewing Technology and another course on cultural and military landscape survey practice.
  4. An artificial intelligence robot center was founded, and relevant experiential and general science activities were organized. An AR-based Kinmen tourism guiding app and a VR-based Kinmen warzone historical game app were developed.
  5. Plans were devised to establish a low-carbon campus, and an experiment was completed on the creation of light-weighted permeable bricks by using agricultural wastes as recycled materials.

III. Increasing the “publicness” of higher education

  1. The university ensured the education opportunity of indigenous students, students with disabilities, and students from remote islands and regions. Admission was prioritized for students from households with low incomes and lower middle incomes as well as for students with special situations. The goal is to promote equal rights to education and societal equality.
  2. Five events were hosted to discuss self-management of health and eating habits. A total of 428 students with financial disadvantages participated in these events.
  3. Health consultation, psychological consultation, career development consultation, and group consultation courses were provided to 125, 142, 127, and 59 financially disadvantaged students, respectively.
  4. A course was offered to College students self-settling and caring of university students. More than 250 students participated in this course.

IV. Taking up our social responsibility

  1. Four arts and literature events were hosted, during which 8,148 textbooks in Chinese and other Western languages were donated to the university, including 1,500 hardcover copies of The Siku Quanshu from the National Palace Museum.
  2. An event was hosted with 300 participants to promote the health of older adults living in communities. Another event entitled One-Day Older University Students was organized.
  3. The second cohort of library volunteer training was hosted, and 67 students completed the training. In addition, seven volunteer teams from the university participated in various services in Taiwan.
  4. Teachers from the university helped the Kinmen Society for Environmental Education win the environmental education excellence award issued by the Taiwanese government. The university also guided four forgiven students to win the third place in the Exploring Taiwan—Sustainability nationwide competition.
